Hatherly Happenings

As the holidays quickly approach, it is important to us that all of the families within the Hatherly School community have what they need this season. The past couple of years have hit some families particularly hard economically. Our kindergarten classes had a wonderful visit on Thursday morning with local author and artist, Becky O'Toole! Becky read her book as students followed along in our own books that were generously gifted to each kindergartener. Then, each class was given a stuffed animal cat. Each class named their cat and will be responsible for taking care of it!

On Wednesday, the Fifth Graders learned about our local watersheds as well as ways to conserve and protect our water through the NSRWA Water All Around Us program. The students rotated around to different stations to hear from parent volunteers about each of these topics. The students also created their own water filtration systems in the classroom.

Mr. Puzzangara created a fun and engaging hands on health lesson about the digestive system.

Students in grades 1, 2 and 5 learned about the digestive system and how food travels through the different parts of this process. The digestive system was broken down into five separate parts starting with your mouth, the esophagus, stomach, small intestine and large intestine. Students were able to move through a digestive system obstacle course to help reinforce their knowledge of this body system. Parent/Teacher conferences will be on Thursday, December 16th from 2-3:30 pm and from 4:30 - 6:30 pm. You may book your conference up until Wednesday evening on December 15th at 11 pm. The link is below. This year you will have the option of a virtual conference or an in-person conference with your child's teacher. The sign up link is to provide a schedule for the teachers. Please email your child's teacher if you plan on doing a VIRTUAL conference. If you do not email your child's teacher they will assume your conference will be in person. Please remember all conferences are 10 minutes to allow for teachers to meet with multiple families.
