Nixon School Receives Promosing Practice Recognition for RoxBuddies Peer Mentoring Program
Washington, DC (June 1, 2022) - Character.org, a national advocate and leader for character in
schools and communities, today certified 152 Promising Practices in schools and organizations.
"We are extremely proud to recognize the schools and organizations that have developed and implemented a Promising Practice” said Dr. Arthur Schwartz, President of Character.org. “Each of these programs and initiatives have demonstrated significant impact and strongly align with the principles that help schools and organizations cultivate a culture of character.”
This year’s character development practices and initiatives included peer mentoring, service-learning, and conflict resolution approaches. Many of the Promising Practices also involve parents and the local community. See the full list of our 2022 Promising Practices below.
Character.org will honor each 2022 Promising Practice recipient (schools and organizations) at its National Forum to be held October 19-20, 2022. Learn more about Promising Practices on our website.
Fourth Grade Spring Concert for 4th Grade Families
- The parking spots in the front of the building by the lobby MUST be reserved for voting, so please refrain from parking there. Families are encouraged to carpool. Parking can occur in the lower lot and along Mt. Arlington Blvd.
- Concert Attendees will enter the building beginning at 1:45 PM via the double doors by the gym / old playground area. Two tables will be set up just outside (if the weather is nice) the doors or just inside them. Adult attendees will be asked to present their license and then to sign in prior to receiving a visitor badge.
- Bathrooms that will be accessible to concert guests will be those by the gym doors. Ms. Freeborn will be stationed by them.
- After the performance, one 4th grade class at a time will return to the gym and sit down in the ramp area to the stage. I will announce one adult for each child being picked up from that class to come to that area to sign the student out. Once the child is signed out, the families will leave through the back doors for the PTA Sponsored Fourth Grade Ice Cream Social.
- Any student not signed out will return to the classroom with the teacher. Since the Ice Cream Social is a PTA event, whereby parents/guardians monitor their children, students not signed out by a parent/guardian will be dismissed in their typcial fashion. Fourth Grade teachers will join the ice cream social once all of their students have dismissal coordinated.
- If a family wants to also pick up a sibling, they will need to walk around the outside of the buliding and go to the security vestibule, which they will access once they have exitied from the gym.
- Note: Following the performance, the families and fourth graders will be invited into the backyard for an ice cream social. If the weather is inclement, the ice cream social will be hosted in the gym.
