From the Principal's Desk
Term Two seems to have gone by in a flash and the unusually cold weather is certainly reminding us that winter is here. I am sure that everyone is looking forward to the school holiday break and some extra time at home keeping warm! The conclusion of Semester One is a great time to reflect on the many achievements that individual students have made in the first half of the school year and you will receive student Semester One reports very soon. These reports focus on each individual student’s progress against their IEP goals, and I am confident that every student within our school makes progress on a daily basis and congratulations to all of our students who have been working hard to achieve their IEP goals.
The winter months have well and truly arrived, and this can impact on student attendance with a number of virus’s presenting themselves at different times. We encourage families to be aware of the flu like symptoms and that if your child is unwell to please seek medical attention and remain at home until the risk of infection has passed. We thank you for your support in this matter. Thank you to our parents who diligently keep us informed in the event that their child is absent. Should your child also utilise School Bus Services, please inform your contracted bus driver in the event that your child will be absent from school. There are a number of students whose attendance may be identified as a cause for concern so please take note of the number of half day absences that are recorded on your child’s report.
As you are all aware Jamie Reid, one of Year Nine students sadly passed away earlier this term and yesterday our collective school community along with his mother and grandmother celebrated Jamie at our final School assembly for Term Two. Jamie’s favourite story was called “Bin Chicken’” by Kate and Jol Temple which was shared with our students, followed by a ‘Bubble Ceremony’ where all students were provided with a bubble wand to send thousands of bubbles into the sky in memory of Jamie. This was an incredible celebration of Jamie and his life. The school will be purchasing and installing two Ibis bird statues for our school garden in tribute to Jamie.
There have been many events and activities that our students have participated in this term with a hugely successful incursion for the whole school to celebrate NAIDOC Week with Derek Nannup. His storytelling and didgeridoo skills also engage and fascinate our students. We also recently had a combined NAIDOC Week barbeque with the Secondary College, along with some traditional dancers to honour the theme of “For our Elders”.
There have been many staff changes during the course of this year and we welcome some new staff to our team for Semester Two. Welcome to Ms Emily Hughes who will be teaching in Year 8-2, and to Ms Emily Fraser who will be teaching in MAG 1. Ms Maggie Reid will continue to support classes throughout the school. We have a number of new Education Assistants also joining us and I am sure that everyone will make them feel welcome. Mrs Vicki McEvoy who has been an integral part of our Education Assistant team will be retiring to enjoy time with her family and whilst we shall all miss Vicki, we all certainly wish her every happiness.
We hope that you enjoy all of the celebrations in this newsletter edition which captures the success in each classroom. Thank you to all of the staff here at Belridge SESC for continuing to provide high quality educational and social programs and opportunities for all of our students. Thank you to our families for your ongoing support for our school and I sincerely wish all families an enjoyable Term Two school holiday break.
We look forward to seeing all students when school returns on Monday the 17th of July 2023.

Middle School News
I would like to congratulate all of the middle school students on all of their hard work this term. I am so proud of each and every one of you!! You have all achieved success in a number of ways, and you have all demonstrated outstanding results which are displayed in your school reports. Our school values, 'Safe, Respectful and Responsible' have been a big part of everything we do here at Belridge SESC and it is great to see all of our students demonstrating these values each and every day. For the last 10 weeks I have been focusing on the virtue of Respect with many of our middle school students. Some of the messages I have communicated include:
- Respect is an attitude of caring about people and treating them with dignity
- Respect is valuing ourselves and others
- We show respect by speaking and acting with courtesy
- When we are respectful, we treat others as we want to be treated
- Respect includes honouring the expectations of our family or school
- It is knowing that everyone deserves respect including you
Our quality teaching programs have supported students to strive to do their best which has resulted in students achieving their goals and having fun along the way. There have been many highlights across middle school this term: 8-2 have been engaged in researching and creating maps of WA, Australia and the World and have made some amazing world globes that are extremely detailed.
Students in MAG 1 have been working on 'Bond Blocks' skills and targeting fluency with number
bonds, leading to recall which supports adding and subtracting to 20.
As part of our whole school observance and recognition of Sorry Day, Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC week, Derek Nannup visited the school to host an educational incursion to celebrate Aboriginal culture. The whole school thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and we value the opportunity to celebrate, recognise and become more educated of the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Middle school staff and students would like to wish students, staff, parents and carers all the very best over the holiday break and we look forward to seeing you all in Term 3.

NAIDOC Celebrations
BSESC have had an eventful week celebrating NAIDOC. The week consisted of a NAIDOC colouring in competition, Derek Nannup Incursion, NAIDOC Healing Hands Activity and a joint whole school NAIDOC BBQ with Belridge Secondary College.
The NAIDOC BBQ was a huge success for all our students across the school campus. We enjoyed the BBQ, watching and celebrating the students Dance performance and relaxing in the sun to some music by Indigenous artists.

7-1
WOW we are at the end of Term 2 already - the weeks have flown by!
Class 7-1 had a creative start to the term, with the students making some beautiful Mother's Day gifts. The class had a go at dipping plant pots in a bucket of water and nail polish. Each student got to choose which colours they would like to put in the water, then had a go at pouring in some nail polish. Once done, they had an adult help them with dipping the plant pot into the water. It was a great experience for all!
Student's then chose some succulents from our school garden to place in the decorated pot. Each student helped with planting the succulents into their pots and covering them with some potting mix. It was a great effort by the students, as it was the first time they had done gardening work at school. They practiced waiting their turn, sharing the gardening tools with others and slowing down when doing an activity. A massive thank you to the EA's in the room as well for working alongside the students.
Class 7-1 hope that everyone has a great school holidays and we look forward to seeing you all in Term 3.
Crystal Thompson and Team 7-1
7-2
7-2 students had a very busy start to Term Two. The students have been working very hard in all their subjects and especially love music where they are learning to play Seven Nation Army on the keyboard.
The students have also taken a keen interest in the environment during our HASS lessons, participating in cleaning up litter around Belridge and learning all about Recycling.
We have had lots of fun in Lego Club, with some of our amazing builds being displayed in the front office.
7-2 students have also loved going on the bikes this term and have been enjoying the beautiful weather while it lasts.
Happy Holidays to everyone - stay safe and warm and we will see you next term.
7-2 Team
7-3
All the students in 7-3 have had a great Term 2.
We are continuing to work on our learning goals across all subjects. In Science we have been making mixtures and solutions and experimenting with separation techniques. We made secondary colours by the walking water experiment then separated the colour by using chromatography, this included lots of predicting before, during and after the experiment. We made a bath fizzie mixture and gave them to our mothers for Mother's Day and in Maths we turned a rectangular prism into a box for our bath fizzies.
One of our favourite sessions of the week is when we go bike riding and have time on the ninja course. We are very responsible choosing the right size helmets and then putting them back in the correct position. We are learning about road rules while riding the bikes as well. It is great to see the improvement in the student's riding skills since the beginning of the year and how some students are confident in riding different bikes every week. After riding we spend some time on the ninja course which is always fun.
Wishing everyone a wonderful holiday break - see you all in Term 3.
Helen Carlyon
8-1
Term 2 has been very busy.
The students have enjoyed going to the ILC for cooking lessons. Chocolate Brownies were a big hit! We have also made fruit salad, trying all the different fruits and writing about which was our favourite.
We are studying rocks in Science, part of our learning was conducting a rock observation and trying to identify the rock type.
Blake was given a very important job of putting away the auditorium seating after a whole school assembly, this involved putting all the chairs into a flat position and then retracting the stairs. As you can see, this was a BIG job but he did it brilliantly.
The students have been busy creating purple flowers for a Sorry Day display at school.
And now we halfway through the school year already - WOW!
Students have continued to impress me with their increased levels of independence and self-regulation skills.
Art with Mrs Bainbridge has been a favourite subject this term, the students have created a fish and an octopus and are currently creating a mermaid. They have enjoyed Digital Technologies creating code to program a robot.
Their writing and math skills have continued to improve throughout the Semester and I look forward to seeing the ways in which they will continue to impress next semester.
Hope you all have great holidays, and we look forward to seeing you in Semester 2.
Tracy Buckley
8-2
All the students in 8-2 have worked extremely hard this term. There has been a positive willingness to engage in all tasks presented across all learning areas. There has been an emphasis on providing a 'hands on' approach to learning experiences across all learning areas which has been particularly beneficial towards achieving IEP goals this Semester.
Some of the projects students have engaged in this semester include Science experiments involving states of matter and the nature of chemical reactions, researching and creating maps of WA, Australia and the World, making and labelling world globes, designing and creating mechanical hands from cardboard and creating posters involving yarn which directly links to plant cells, animals cells and neurons.
The social-emotional climate of the room has been positive, and all students have been extremely productive. The students in 8-2 have demonstrated improvements with getting started independently without having to be prompted, the students demonstrated excellence in the way they consistently use their manners throughout the school day with both staff and their peers, they have all been very king to one another and are taking responsibility for their own self-regulation. I am extremely proud of the students in 8-2.
The staff in 8-2 want to wish all of our students and families a wonderful holiday break and we look forward to seeing you all back for Term 3.
Mr Blair Finnis
8-3
Term 2 has seen the boys settling into their routines and working hard in each subject area. Not without any fun though, as this term we have started a games hour each Friday afternoon. This is where the students get to play board games as a part of practising and refining their social skills. Thus far UNO and chess have been a favourite and hopefully more games will be incorporated during the year.
In our core learning areas, we are learning about the different landforms in HASS, particularly well-known landforms throughout Australia. This ties in with Earth Science where we are studying the different rock types and the rock cycle. Students have enjoyed growing their own crystals, which look amazing. They have also had to use some creativity in creating a 2D poster of the rock cycle, which can be quite challenging when you are not allowed to use any drawing tools!
Health has been all about developing skills to use when faced with challenging situations. We are also looking at communication skills, including body language and have had fun acting out different scenarios like brushing your hair or washing the dishes to different emotions such as when angry, sad or scared.
Wishing everyone a happy school holiday break!
Eva Northmore
9-1
Kaya (Hello),
Can you believe Semester 1 is done?
One word to describe 9-1 this term is RESILIENT.
After a very challenging start to our term, the students in 9-1 have really rallied together. It has been wonderful to watch them support one another in the classroom and out in the yard. The work ethic displayed over the term has been incredible. Some of the amazing work they have done includes:
- Building their computer literacy skills, by writing sequenced stories in English.
- Completing an oral presentation in English.
- Learning about data in Maths.
- Using descriptive language to describe 3D shapes.
- Completing a range of classroom-based activities as part of their Thermal Energy investigation in Science.
- Completed self portraits.
- Creating posters to demonstrate their understanding in Health.
Highlights over the final weeks of term include:
- Completing fun Maths challenges - including our MM Data collection activity
- Making solar ovens in Science.
- Finishing off their final English topic - their film study on Moana.
All the staff in 9-1 wish everyone a warm and safe holiday and we cannot wait for Semester 2's adventures.
Yanga (Thank You)
Mrs Claire Semmens, Mrs Fryer, Ms Bridge and Miss B
9-2
While our staple subjects such as English and Maths continue to have students work on their IEP goals - the class are working to further develop their independence and take initiative to continue working on various tasks to challenge their thoughts, creativity, memory or reasoning.
This term we have covered the following:
- Civics and Citizenship in Humanities and Social Science - we are studying the different levels of government, election campaigns and how laws are made.
- Chemical Science in Science - we are exploring matter and the mixture of various substances.
- Coding in Digital Technologies - we are using Kubo robots to code a path using tag tiles. This aligns with our Maths session where we have been learning about grid references.
- Community supports and staying healthy in Health and Physical Education - we have been looking at the supports available to the community to assist in a range of scenarios.
The students have proven their excellence in the kitchen during Home Economics making what smells to be delicious food such as scones, tacos and Spaghetti Bolognese - each week it is rare that the food makes it back to class with most students.
Each afternoon students have been working on identifying three successes of the day and one thing they are working on. The successes and area for improvement generally reflect both academics or social skills. So families, please ensure your child's diary is coming to school each day so that the daily reflection can make its way home.
Thank you so much to our fantastic Education Assistants - Mrs Nord, Mrs Bond, Miss Bennett, Mrs Murray (as well as all the EAs we have had support at other times!), for all the work you do for our class and your unwavering commitment to supporting the individual needs of our students.
Katherine Vales
9-3
Term 2 has really flown by for our Year 9s. 9-3 students have continued to work hard across all subjects.
In Maths our class has been improving their time skills where they have been practicing reading analogue clocks every day. Most students are now learning time in 5-minute intervals. Students have also made clocks in D&T which they have taken home to continue learning about time.
In English students are learning about different forms of media from newspapers to BTN. Students have been reading different news articles and practicing their comprehension skills. During
Science our students have been learning about the scientific method in Chemistry. They have been focusing on pH in household goods. Students have tested the pH of many different items and classified them as acidic, neutral or alkaline. They even made bath bombs and compared which acid was more effective in creating the fizz.
For Health our class has been learning about peer pressure and how to deal with the scenarios. The students in 9-3 have already made some items for Market Day in Textiles, using their art skills to create.
In HASS students have been learning about the Australian political system. They have learnt about the 3 branches of government and the 3 levels of government. Students especially enjoyed meeting Senator Fatima Payman and our local MLA Caitlin Collins. They asked a lot of questions and represented the school well.
We look forward to a great Semester 2. Thank you for your continued support,
Sharon Mandoreba and the 9-3 Team
Design and Technology
Five ESC classes have just completed a semester of woodwork. During the semester the classes worked on wooden toy trucks. Each class only attended D&T for 1 period a week with some missing lessons due to PD days, sport carnivals, public holidays etc. so with all these interruptions the students were still able to work hard and produce some great work. The students were expected to follow all safety instructions from the teacher and the EA’s at all times as they did. They attempted all tasks asked of them and many were able to work independently producing a project to a very good standard and the students, EA’s and myself were very proud of their effort and the finished project.

MAG1
The students in Mag 1 have shown great resilience with the unexpected number of staff changes this semester. We are extremely proud of how well the students have continued to engage in their learning tasks during this time.
Students have demonstrated excellent progress across all learning areas this semester. Maths lessons have involved using the interactive whiteboard to teach a number of maths concepts. The interactive whiteboard integrates various learning styles into one experience. Students can learn by seeing, hering and interacting with the board through touch and they absolutely love it! Students have also been introduced to 'Bond Blocks' this semester as part of our whole school maths initiative. The Bond Block System targets fluency with number bonds , leading to recall, to add and subtract to 20. Students also gain a robust understanding of addition and subtraction concepts and develop efficient calculating strategies and number concepts including place value, mathematical reasoning and problem solving.
The students' favourite activities over the lasts couple of weeks have been when we turned white carnations blue and celery red during our Science experiments.
Art activities have also been educational and lots of fun as we allowed the students to get hands on and messy while they interacted with paints, glue and other materials to make a number of different art pieces.
Maggie Read and the EAs in MAG1
MAG2
Students have had an awesome Term Two!
The weather has been glorious, sunny and no rain when going to Landsdale Farm. The students have been busy preparing their plot of land. Last week they planted pak choi and parsley seedlings that will be fed to the farm animals once they are a decent size. The highlight every week is visiting the farm animals as a well deserved break after working hard in the garden.
MAG 2 students also planted pea and marigold seeds at school which are currently outside the classroom. They also enjoyed planting their jade cuttings when potting and making their Mother's Day presents.
Hot drinks have been the choice for cooking at the beginning of this term and we shall be moving onto hot snacks next. Jarrah loves cooking in the kitchen, Michael likes making things for other people and Massimo is more than happy to eat and drink anything he or anyone else makes.😊
We finished the term with excursions to bowling, lunch and shopping at Coles in Joondalup Shopping Centre with the 12-1 class.
Kim Butler
DFES
The DFES Cadets have been very productive this semester and had some fun activities.
During the term the Cadets have been learning about first aid and had a visit from Wilson Medic One and St Johns where they completed a first aid focus course learning about the acronym DRSABCD also having hands on experience doing CPR on some Annie dolls.
The Year 11's have had some memorable highlights so far this year. Team Mike and Team Romeo went to Kings Park for our special DFES ANZAC day activity. The cadets also went to Neil Hawkins Park for team building games and a BBQ, lots of laughs were had by all. Lastly, we went to Whitfords Sea Rescue. The cadets learnt about the operation centre and sea rescue services, having a tour on the boat at Hillarys and even having a go at the fire hose. This was a wonderful experience for the Year 11's.
Just last week we visited Kings Park, where we learnt about bush survival skills making delicious damper and building shelters in the bush learning many valuable skills.
The Year 12's have also been very busy with a visit to Fremantle Sea Rescue where we learnt about the operation centre and how a rescue is performed by the emergency services.
Team Alpha, Team Charlie and Team Quebec were lucky enough to visit the Perth Hills Discovery Centre with the first excursion named Fire, Fuel and Country learning about the effects these have on our environment. In Week 9, we were lucky enough to return and had a fun filled Deadly and Dangerous presentation. The students learnt about some deadly and dangerous Australian animals and what kind of first aid we might need to administer. After this, we moved onto the reptile encounter where the students got up close touching a range of scaly reptiles.
It was outstanding to see the cadet's efforts this term.
The DFES Team would like to wish all the students a wonderful break and see you for Term 3 ready for an exciting rest of 2023.
The DFES Team
10-1
Term Two started off smoothly after a nice long Easter break and I can't believe it is almost over!
Students are enjoying their Community Access visits out to the shopping centre and just recently their trip to Neil Hawkins Park. The weather was absolutely stunning, and we couldn't have asked for a better day. We had all hoped to see some pelicans, especially as we are reading the book 'Storm Boy' in class together. We explored part of the Yellagonga Regional Park wetlands and got to see the habitat for many of the flora and fauna species that are living there.
Students are becoming more familiar with map reading, navigating the transport system, keeping track of their own belongings, money skills and interacting in an appropriate manner out in the community, which is lovely to see.
In Health and Protective Behaviours, we have been focusing on healthy relationships, positive mental health, trust, consent and private and public concepts.
For Mother's Day, students were busy being creative with their Mother's Day cards and treats (coconut ice).
Over the next few weeks, students will be focusing on using some indigenous ingredients in their cooking classes (lily pillies, lemon myrtle, kangaroo, wattle seed etc ...) and hopefully you will get to try some too ...watch this space!
What a wonderful end to the term! A few fun Community Access trips out to the Museum and to Lake Herdsman Discovery Centre.
Wishing you all a wonderful break to hopefully relax, sleep in and enjoy some time with family and friends. See you all ready to go in Term 3!

10-2
Term Two got off to a great start with the students working well across all areas of the curriculum!
In Mathematics, the students have recently been working on various activities that required them to select which operation needed to be applied to complete each task.
In English, the students are reading their class novel, "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban". This is the third book in the series the class has undertaken, and they are enjoying completing the comprehension questions and other tasks relating to the story.
In Design and Technology, the students are currently making a wooden truck complete with trailer; while in Digital Technologies, they are working on coding tasks.
The class recently visited the State Library as part of their Community Access program. The students caught the bus and train into the city and bought morning tea and lunch, displaying appropriate social behaviours throughout.
During the second half of Term Two, four of our students participated in a three day Try-A-Trade course at North Metropolitan TAFE. They were introduced to bricklaying, tiling and plastering, completing a project on each day.
Two students undertook a work experience placement at the Petstock store in Joondalup. They completed various tasks including pricing and stock rotation.
All students participated in an appropriate manner, representing our school wonderfully!
Please feel free to contact me at school anytime. My email address is stephen.macmahon@education.wa.edu.au
Enjoy the holidays - see you all in Term 3.

The always impressive 11-1 class has had a brilliant Term 2.
We celebrated ANZAC Day by learning about its origins and importance. The class made beautiful poppies to be displayed on our wall to honour the Anzac's contributions to peace and they even found time to make some ANZAC biscuits.
The ever-expanding learning conglomerate of the 11-1 is now moving into the world of personal health. With the soon to be world famous “11-1 Super Work Out Plan”. The students created this exercise regime by choosing different movements and stretches to help everyone stay healthy. Great work team.
Let’s hear from our roving reporters on their thoughts of the term so far…
Jayden’s findings on DFES First Aid incursion:
‘’For our DFES class, we had a lady come out and teach us about First Aid. It was good because everyone listened and learnt what to do if someone got hurt. We learnt that we should stay calm and call 000. I liked it.’’
Now let’s hear from Grace about Coastal Care:
‘’This semester we have been going to Coastal care for work experience. We get to plant and water plants, clean up rubbish and make the coast nicer. I have really enjoyed it. It’s great to be able to make a difference.’’
"Finally, Jada’s expose on the excursion to Joondalup.
We went to the Joondalup shops and bought something to eat at the Food Court. We worked on our money skills and how to order and pay for food at the counter by ourselves. I enjoyed my fish and chips. "
I can now say with absolute confidence that the first term wasn’t a fluke. Class 11-1 is amazing. It is a classroom filled with likeable, talented and hardworking individuals. They have created a safe learning environment filled with lively discussions and great Uno games.
Keep up the great work team.
Simon Malloy and 11-1 Team
11-2
11-2 has had a wonderful Term 2 with all students now regularly attending a work placement on Tuesdays. Several students started a new placement for Term Two and it's been pleasing that we now have a student at the Belridge canteen and another at Spud Shed. Tuesday morning is certainly a busy place in our room as students are preparing themselves for getting out to work. All students are gaining invaluable life skills from their placements.
In ASDAN pottery we have been developing mindfulness and our creative skills by making pinch pots and modelling turtles.
The class participated in an incursion, during Week 2, with St John's Ambulance. We learnt about what to do in a medical emergency and how to do CPR. We have also been learning about fire safety, including participating in a simulated evacuation of the class to the muster point.
We had two delightful DFES excursions to Whitfords Sea Rescue and Kings Park. At KIngs Park we learnt bush survival skills, including making a fire to cook damper and making our own shelter.
Emma Bainbridge
12-1
We hit the ground running after the holidays in 12-1. ASDAN is in full swing, and students are showing greater skills in all our practical lessons.
The class Car Washing business is very busy with many repeat customers. The students are working well as a team and producing excellent results. The review questionnaire given to customers once the car is washed gives students excellent feedback on their work.
Meal Preparation is a highlight of the week for students in 12-1. Their chopping, cutting, mixing, measuring and preparation skills to name a few, are all improving. This term students have made Zucchini Slice, Chilli Con Carne, Matchsticks and Banana Splits. For Mothers Day the class made and decorated beautiful cupcakes which were wrapped in cellophane and ribbons for the students to take home.
This term during DFES lessons the students are doing first aid. St John's ran an incursion in Week 2 and the students will continue to practise the skills of CPR and placing an unconscious victim into the recovery position as well as bandaging and other first aid techniques over the term.
In Week 7, 12-1 attended Zone Bowling as part of their Money Progression ASDAN module. As a group the class had to find a leisure activity they would like to participate in, within a certain cost budget, then travel plan and pay for the outing once there. The students had a great time and there were many High 5's as everyone got at least one Spare!
We are amazing!!
Tonya Vander Loop
12-2
Term 2 started with the arrival of the long-awaited Year 12 Leaver's Jackets. The weather has helped with lots of cooler mornings and 12-2 are very proud of their final piece of school uniform.
For Workplace Learning, Ghenwa is enjoying a wide range of jobs in the kitchen area of IKEA. Harrison is working on the shop floor where he replenishes and sorts customer resources. Blake is working at SuperCheap Autos and he is completing recovery and restock of shelves, ensures that the workplace is tidy, removes any broken items and directs customers to the appropriate person or place.
I think 12-2 and 12-3 agree that Cobra Cafe continues to be a highlight of every week. This year the cafe is regularly making over 40 main courses on Wednesdays - menu items have included cheeseburgers with wedges, chicken and chorizo pasta, Tom Yum rice noodles, and 20+ desserts including sticky toffee slice, pavlova and Apple Pie and cream. The students are working to an industry standard and 'Chef Wearing' ensures that presentation is also exceptional.
In DFES, 12-2 have been completing their first aid training in the classroom, which will culminate in a training day in Mundaring this term. The students also had an amazing day at Fremantle Sea Rescue where they saw the special work of volunteers in a beautiful historic building.
Bye for now,
Sarah Hobson and 12-2
12-3
As we run through to the end of Term Two, students in 12-3 have worked hard to complete as much of their Semester One work as possible.
During Mondays ASDAN lessons, students have completed several bodies of work about Healthy Relationships. They have learned about the different intensities of emotions that can be felt, different scenarios and situations that may lead to these feelings, and listed strategies to support their regulation. Students have created a poster about the different elements to relationships, how relationships can differ, how they are formed and how to maintain healthy relationships.
Students have continued to progress through their Keys4Life program and in recent weeks they have studied the sections about driving being a complex task and stopping distances. When estimating the distance a car would take to stop at various speeds, students were surprised to learn the amount of distance needed to come to a complete stop, underestimating distance considerably.
Student progress through their Certificate II course is going well, with students on track to complete the full course when required. They have recently completed an intense unit of Industry Hygiene and Workplace Text.
Thursday's DFES has also been busy as students have worked their way through their First Aid Program, concentrating on chokes, burns, strains, fractures, bites and bandages. In Week 9 , students are attending an excursion entitled 'Deadly and Dangerous' at the Mundaring Discovery Centre.
Finally, ADWPL on Fridays will conclude in Week 9 as students do not attend work experience in the last week of term. From all reports and feedback, students have applied themselves with professionalism and maturity.
Enjoy the mid-year break and we shall see you for Term 3!

Canteen - Change to online ordering
Please note that the canteen has changed their online food orders provider of QuickCliq and orders can now be placed through Flexischools. This transition took place on the 22nd of May 2023.
For those of you already signed up to the previous platform, QuickCliq, please note that you can close your account (just find the link at the bottom of your Profile Management page) when needed and any monies remaining will be returned to your attached bank account.
It is a much easier online ordering portal to use from a parent's point of view and comes with its own app.
(Unfortunately, the office is unable to assist should you encounter any problems with your account. Please contact Jarrod Doyle, Canteen Manager, direct on 0413 827 883.)
