What is the ASVAB?
The Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) is a multiple choice test, administered by the United States Military Entrance Processing Command, used to determine qualification for enlistment in the United States Armed Forces.
Although the test is administered by the military, it is not (and never has been) a requirement that a test-taker with a qualifying score enlist in the armed forces.

Students are the primary architects of their own careers. Therefore, they need the tools to choose their design and focus. One important tool for building a strong foundation of self- knowledge is the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB). The ASVAB consists of eight short individual tests covering general science, arithmetic reasoning, word knowledge, paragraph comprehension, mathematics knowledge, electronics information, auto and shop information, and mechanical comprehension. It yields three career exploration scores: verbal skills, math skills, and science and technical skills. It is designed to help each student learn more about themselves and the world of work. It aids them in identifying their strengths and weaknesses and helps to narrow down their interests and match those interests with possible careers. Whether students have a tentative career plan or not, the ASVAB will help them to clarify their interests, skills, and values.
The ASVAB will be given to juniors at our school on Thursday, November 21st. We will begin the test at promptly 8:00 am. The test will take about three hours. Please see that your child has a good night’s rest the night before and a nutritious breakfast that morning. Results will be scored by the Department of Defense and will be returned to the school along with the “Guide”, which will help each student match their interests and abilities with over 400 civilian and military occupations. All juniors and all Alt School students will be tested.
