Happy Friday South Community!
We had a great first week of December this week at the South. We had the Scholastic Book Fair this week, run by Mrs. White and her team of volunteers Tues-Thurs. All students were able to get a book from the fair and the students were so excited with their purchases. Who doesn't love a new book???
The district updates this past week also previewed some exciting news for the South School community. US News and World Report named the South Elementary on their list of Best Elementary Schools in Massachusetts. Please see a short blurb from the release below:
Both the South School and Wilkins School have been recognized as two of the best elementary schools in the state by U.S. News & World Report!
U.S. News & World Report looked at schools across the country and ranked more than 950 elementary schools in Massachusetts for its 2024 list. Schools ranking in the top 40 percent of their state earned the distinction of being named one of the best schools by U.S. News & World Report. This included both the South and Wilkins, with the South School ranked in the top 12 percent of elementary schools in Massachusetts.
Schools are ranked based on student proficiency in statewide math and reading/language arts assessments, while also factoring in socioeconomic demographics. “The top-ranked schools are all high-achieving and have succeeded at educating all their students,” U.S. News & World Report explains.
A huge THANK YOU to our amazing students, staff and community of supportive families for this accomplishment. The PTO has voted to purchase some signage for the school to share this wonderful news.
As a reminder, winter concerts are coming up in December! Grades K-3 will have a winter concert on Friday, December 15th at 9am. Grades 4 & 5 will have a chorus and band concert on Wednesday, December 20th at 9 am. Please see the flyer below for additional information. The lower playground blacktop will be OPEN for parking for these events.

Stoughton Police Department Toy Drive
It is that time of year again. We are so excited to announce our annual Stoughton Police Department’s Fill A Cruiser event. On Saturday December 9, 2023 from 10:00am to 3:00pm we will have officers collecting toys to Fill A Cruiser right in front of the Stoughton Police Station (26 Rose Street)
Have plans that day? No problem. We will have a collection box in the lobby beginning November 24th and running through December 15th. The goal is to collect toys, sports equipment, games and clothing for children between the ages of newborn and 17.
Not a shopper? No problem there either. Gift cards and cash donations will also be accepted.
Don’t want to leave your house because it is getting too cold? Stop us if you’ve heard this before, but No Problem!! Donations can be sent via Venmo to @stoughtonpolicerelief
Please help us bring joy to families in our community this year.
We are looking forward to seeing you all.
Sincerely,
The Stoughton Police Department
Update from Nurse Kaplan
As a reminder from Nurse Kaplan, student safety and wellbeing are some of our top priorities. We are still waiting for updated 2023-24 school year medication for many students along with current doctors orders. For students to participate in activities like field trips they need to be cleared by Nurse Kaplan.
Please remember to send in a change of clothing for your child to keep in the classroom or their backpack. There have been many students ( younger and older) recently who have needed clothing from the clinic. It is always more comfortable for students to have their own clothing when needed rather than trying to fit into clothing from the clinic that is too big or not their style. If clothing is borrowed, please launder and return it as soon as possible.
