Bell Fun Run Coming Soon!
Bobcat Parents! This year’s main fundraiser is the Bell Fun Run! It’s a 9-day program that kicks off with a Pep Rally on October 18. Then families will have time to get pledges for every lap your student runs (30-35 laps), and we’ll celebrate at the Fun Run on October 27. With our big goal to raise funds for Instructional Resource and Supplies, we asked the Fun Run experts at Boosterthon to power our Fun Run and make it more profitable, easier, and fun.
Students will also experience an amazing character theme, BACKYARD BOX OFFICE! It’s a movie theme all about making a difference by getting into character. Our students will learn from five REAL kid difference-makers. From inventors, to world-class speakers, to business owners, to world-record holders, these five kids will inspire our students to practice the five “Character Acts” and make a difference in our community.
Donations will go toward Instructional Resources and Supplies and to the entire 9-day experience. So please help our school by reaching out to sponsors. Also, all families are invited to come out and cheer on your student at the Fun Run! Thank you for your support!
October 27, 2016
Families are invited to come and cheer your child on as they run! Please sign in at our front office for a Visitor Badge, then join us outside on our field.
Kindergarten & 1st Grade Fun Run: 8:30-9:30 AM
2nd Grade & 3rd Grade Fun Run: 9:30-10:30 AM
4th Grade & 5th Grade Fun Run: 10:30-11:30 AM
For your planning purposes, most students will complete 30-35 laps total (35 laps max). Please support us by asking friends and family to pledge your child. Look for your student’s pledgebook coming home October 18th!
No Costumes at Bell Elementary
Bobcat Families:
Please help us keep our learning environment focused and safe. No costumes will be allowed at school on Monday, October 31. You may send your child in appropriate PJs to celebrate our first day of Red Ribbon Week.
The only exception to this is Kindergarten classrooms that may be dressing up in a celebration of literacy on October 28th. The kindergarten teachers have sent home information about this and their Literacy Parade to kindergarten families.
Thank you for your support!
Reading At Home...
Can Make A HUGE Difference!
Did you know the experience of reading (whether you’re the reader or the one being read to) activates and “exercises” many of the areas of the brain? Did you also know that there is a strong correlation between a child’s ability to read and their academic performance? Because so much of our schooling experiences depend on our abilities to read, children must have strong reading skills to succeed and thrive in school. Here are a few tips on how you can help strengthen your child’s reading at home.
Make it a routine - whether it's right before breakfast, or right before bed, help your child set aside a special time every day to read at least 20 minutes.
Share the activity - Read aloud to your child. Independent reading is important, but listening to someone read is just as important! Reading aloud gives children background knowledge, which helps them make sense of what they see, hear, and read. The more adults read aloud to children, the larger their vocabularies will grow and the more they will know about the world and their place in it.
Talk about it - Talking about the stories you read together will help your children develop an appreciation for literature and strengthen their comprehension skills. At the same time, you will gain a deeper appreciation for how your children think, what interests them, and what they care about. Consider these tips and questions as you “talk books” with your children:
Start the book by making predictions. What do you think will happen in this story?
Ask questions and make comments during the reading process.
After reading a book, have your child tell you the events from the story in the correct order.
What was the problem in this story?
How did the character feel when...?
Encourage your child to make connections. Does this story remind you of another book you read, an event in your life, a movie?
