Dear Cedar Park Middle School families,


The Cedar Park MS family is terribly saddened to learn of the death of Nathan Lowe on Friday afternoon. This news brought great sorrow to our campus and has greatly impacted our students and staff. We offer our deepest sympathies to Nathan’s family and friends.


On Monday, Nov. 2, 2020, counselors and social workers will be available at Cedar Park Middle School to assist any student in need. Assistance will be available to both virtual and in-person students. Online counseling resources will be posted at the CPMS Counseling website on Monday morning for students who require virtual support. Students served through Virtual Learning are welcome and encouraged to come to campus if they would like to meet with a counselor in person.


Students often react strongly to a traumatic event such as this, even if they did not know the student well. Those who are acquainted with the family may be experiencing additional stress. Our counselors have reminded us that it’s important to allow students to express their feelings about this. I encourage you to do the same. The most important thing we can do is to be supportive and encourage an open expression of feelings.


  • Provide opportunities to express thoughts and feelings about death.

  • Answer questions using concrete descriptions and be prepared for repeated questions. Older students may ask more detailed questions to try to understand what happened.

  • Some children may feel less comfortable showing feelings and seeing expressions of grief in others. Make sure to provide these students with a variety of ways to express grief.

  • Watch for changes in your child’s behavior.
