Bonham Lady Warrior Athletics
December 2023 Report
Athletic Director Notes:
Building programs and sustaining growth....
December brings us closer to district basketball competition and the beginning of soccer season. As I watch these groups practice, one thing that stands out to me is the increased participation in both sports. A large part of the credit goes to the head coaches; Kirstin Bockman and Madison Norman. They are different in terms of what they bring to the table, but they are the same as well. Coach Bockman has literally built our girls basketball program from the ground up. The season prior to her taking over, there were 7 girls playing high school basketball, which is barely enough for one team. Now we have a full Varsity and JV with a bench full of subs. In Coach Norman's short time here, she has seen our soccer participation double from last year. The biggest difference between the two coaches is experience. The biggest similarity they have is they are both former Lady Warriors that were successful in their respective sports, and graduated from BHS with the goal of returning one day to lead their former programs.
Powerlifting workouts have began as well and history has shown that Coach Dills always fields a competitive team that earns their way to regional and state competition.
Things are looking up in Lady Warrior Country. I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday!

UNIFORMITY - Look good, feel good, play good
I strongly believe that players on a team should present themselves in a professional, and consistent manner that symbolizes UNITY. When I took over the AD position in February, I wanted our coaches and players to understand my expectations regarding the way we look when we are representing our school, in both practices and games. It's taken a little time to get everything we've needed to accomplish that, but I'm pleased with where we are right now. Here are some examples of the unity and consistency that I want for our athletes.
Jr. High Basketball Report
The most recent competition for our Lady Indians basketball team was in Chisum, where they competed in a A-team tournament on Dec. 9th. Our 7th and 8th grade teams started the day off with big victories before dropping the 2nd game in the brackets later in the morning. Both teams advanced to play in the 3rd place game Saturday afternoon. 8th grade won 53-32 and 7th grade lost a close one 16-15.
BHS Girls Basketball Report
Victories over Miller Grove and Pilot Point gave our varsity girls basketball team an even 2-2 split in the North Hopkins tournament on Dec. 7-9. Coach Bockman and this team have made tremendous strides so far this season. Last year this team only won 2 games the entire season. As of Dec. 10, we already have 9 wins as we head into district play. Our girls are playing with a new level of confidence this season and it's fun to watch!
BHS Soccer Report
With Coach Norman out on maternity leave, assistant coach Kay Aimes has been leading practices and taking care of all the necessary head coaching duties. Coach Aimes and our Lady Warriors traveled to Prosper on Dec. 9th to take on Rock Hill High School in our opening scrimmage. Considering Prosper Rock Hill is a 6A school, it was great to see our team put up a very respectable fight against them, coming so close in a 1-0 defeat. We only have one more game before the winter break, Dec.13th at Melissa. Coach Norman will be back resuming her head coaching duties when we return to school after the break.
