March is a month where we highlight literacy! We are kicking off Read Across America on March 2 with a PBIS Dress Like Your Favorite Book Character day. Our amazing reading interventionists Mrs. Aubrey and Mrs. Thoelen sent home reading bingo cards for the month of March. This is a great opportunity for families to read together! As you complete each box on the BINGO board, simply initial it. At the end of March, students can turn in their completed BINGO cards to be entered into a raffle for some cool prizes!

We are excited for this year's One School, One Book event. This year, we will be reading Imagination According to Humphrey. Each student will receive their own copy of the book. Phelps staff will record each chapter for students to listen to. You can also participate as a family and listen to the chapters together from home. Recordings will be uploaded each day to the Phelps website. You can find the recordings by clicking on the menu tab and scrolling down to the library section.

APS is proud to host its Title 1 night again on Wednesday, March 22. Learn about what your child should know when and why. Our amazing staff will help teach parents what you can do at home to support your children. Come learn about the content and instruction happening at school and leave with resources to use at home!

On Sunday, February 12, the Agawam community came together to donate items to support the victims of the devastating earthquake in Turkiye and Syria.

Congratulations to Mrs. Durocher for being nominated as our Crystal Apple Award winner for the month of January!!! Mrs. Durocher is always there to lend a helping hand. She is so wonderful to work with. She comes into the classroom and always helps out no matter what we are doing! She shares so many of her materials and math ideas! She is also always willing to help in the classroom with the students as well as collaborating with teachers. She is considerate and thoughtful of others, and looks for ways she can help staff and students around the school. She is frequently volunteering her time to help out at events and with various activities. Mrs. Durocher is the definition of a Team Player and we are VERY lucky to have her at Phelps School.

Benjamin Phelps Elementary School is getting ready for the spring book fair! Children will be visiting the book fair during their library time the week of March 6th-10th.

Mrs. W, our librarian, is looking for parent volunteers to assist with each classroom. Volunteers will help the children shop and/or help to check students out at the register!

There are a few time slots where we still need some parent volunteers. You can sign up to volunteer by clicking here! Simply choose your time slot, click "sign up", and fill in your information.

If you have a child that will be 5 years old PRIOR to September 1, 2023 we want to meet you!

The purpose of this night is to answer questions parents might have in regard to their child entering Agawam Public Schools. Hosted by Agawam Public Schools.

Childcare will not be provided.

Letters to families of students that do not attend the ECC were sent by mail prior to February vacation to schedule your child's screening. Please review the necessary documentation required to complete the registration process including the New Student Enrollment Packet.

Screening appointments are scheduled for March 29 and 30 at Phelps. Appointments should last around 45 minutes.

Students that attend the ECC are screened by their classroom teachers at the ECC.

Every year, each public school and school district in Massachusetts receives a report card. Just as your child’s report card shows how they are doing in different subjects, the school’s report card is designed to show families how our school is doing in different areas. Here is a copy of the letter that was emailed home to families.

Ingredients

• 1 package (2-1/2 ounces) thinly sliced deli ham, chopped
• 1 small onion, chopped
• 1/2 cup shredded Swiss cheese
• 1 large egg
• 1-1/2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
• 1/8 teaspoon pepper
• 1 tube (8 ounces) refrigerated crescent rolls

Directions

1. Preheat oven to 375°. Combine the first six ingredients. Divide crescent dough into 24 portions. Press into greased mini muffin cups.
2. Spoon 1 tablespoon ham mixture into each cup. Bake until golden brown, 13-15 minutes.

1 appetizer: 110 calories, 6g fat, 8g carbohydrate (2g sugars, 0 fiber), 4g protein.
