April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month. SRO Bennett will be facilitating a week of awareness activities, including demonstrations, information, and pledges from Text Less Live More to avoid distractions while driving. The week of activities will culminate on Friday, April 28th, when the Dighton Police and Fire Departments will be on campus to educate students about the dangers of distracted and impaired driving. The demonstration will include a mock crash site. There will be two opportunities, one for juniors at 8 AM and the other for seniors at 9 AM. Students in Ms. LaSalle's Advanced Theatre class will take part in the demonstration. Although all juniors and seniors are encouraged to attend, anyone wishing to opt-out may do so. Conversation starter
Talking about distracted or impaired driving can be scary. We all want to think, "That won't happen to me or my family." Yet, we know driving is a high-risk behavior for all teens simply because they are inexperienced. If you're seeking a resource to start a tough conversation, check out SADD's "Contract for Life."
