News and Notes from the VPSS Central Office
From the desk of the Superintendent Tommy Byler
For the first time since December 11th, we completed a full week of school last week. It was a little shaky at times, but we were fortunate that the rains maneuvered in such a way that we were able to adjust and pull off the week.
Thank you to those who made adjustments, school admins who altered some take in patterns, and students for doing your best to handle the wet conditions. Hoping I don't have to be a 4 am meteorologist this week. Keeping my fingers crossed.
As we approach the final two weeks before the Mardi Gras break, we are at a critical juncture for our teachers and students as they move into full prep phase and the high stakes testing season. While we don't change what we do a whole lot, it is a crucial time for us to build up the confidence in our students that they are prepared and will do there best. Giving them opportunities to see the format and structures always helps to ease a little anxiety for our test takers.
Looking ahead in my office we will be working over the next couple of weeks on the staffing and student numbers for the 24-25 school year. It will be a little different type of planning as we will be working with the onset of a new charter school. This will affect funding, staffing, bus routes along with a few other areas so we will make the necessary adjustments and do the best to keep things going in a positive direction.
Hard to believe we will be in February by the end of the week, but we are trekking along at a fast pace. Thank you for all that you do for our system by being supportive of our schools and your children.
Have a great week everyone!
Your Partner in Education,
Superintendent Tommy Byler
