Crawford's Corner... A Message from the Principal
Every day I walk into our campus, and I think to myself, "what a wonderful time to be the Principal of Crockett High School!" Our boys and girls basketball teams made the playoffs, our wrestling team had a state qualifier, our soccer teams are working hard, the tennis and golf teams are in full swing, our track teams are off to the races, and it's finally baseball and softball season. Let's not forget about all of our amazing fine arts programs, and all of the other educational programs (that you will read about in more detail below) that Crockett has to offer. We have so many things to be proud of!
We are lucky around here because of our beautiful campus, and maybe it's the smell of the mountain laurels in the air, but I know for me, springtime is one of the best times of the year. Although it is easy for us to get caught up in Austin's spring time events, we need to remember the most important task at hand...SCHOOL! I love seeing students and staff working hard and making a difference. It is imperative that students are here every single day so that students can, as we say it at Crockett High School, continue to be, "Always Victorious!"
CHS Parent, Teacher, Student Association (PTSA) Meeting

ASL Club
The ASL CLUB and some ASL students went to Service Dogs Inc. in Dripping Springs to register as volunteers for the upcoming Mighty Texas Dog Walk. The event is a fundraiser for Service Dogs Inc. which trains dogs for Deaf and mobility challenged individuals. On our way to their facility, we stopped off at Crepe Crazy in Dripping Springs for some delicious sweet and savory crepes. Crepe Crazy in owned by a deaf family, and run by deaf and signing employees. They have a second location on S Lamar as well. Students enjoyed the food and interaction in ASL. On March 4th, students will work with Service Dogs Inc. to ensure a fun and successful day for all.
A few weeks ago, a few students from ASL CLUB met with Ms. Landry at Jo's Coffee Shop on S Congress and walked over to the Deaf Church. All socialized with mostly older Deaf people and attended the service which was 100% in ASL with a hard of hearing person interpreting.

Life Skills Luncheon
On Friday, February 24th, Life Skills students and teachers hosted a luncheon in their classrooms for the Crockett security team, which included SROs and Hallway Monitors, in honor of Black History month, and as a part of the ongoing program to build and celebrate student/staff relationships.
Throughout the spring semester, a group of Life Skills students, with their teachers, are enjoying the collaboration with teachers from the Texas Very Special Arts program. This year is the fifth year that the grant-funded VSA program has worked with our students on campus. Thank you to the Creative Learning Initiative, CLI, for helping fund the program this year. Stay tuned for exciting updates about the developing Life Skills/VSA media arts production in future Chatter editions.

Band Recognitions
Three of our band students were recognized in the All-Region and All-Area bands. Gaby Martinez, Gabbie Rico, and Melissa Lopez were honored in this performing ensemble. These students worked on College-level music all semester before competing in two, two-phase auditions to receive this honor.
We also had students competing in the Region 18 Solo and Ensemble competition at Bowie High School. Solo and Ensemble is a UIL event that provides students an opportunity to work on high level literature and perform with an accompanist or small ensemble. The students who participate put in hours of hard work outside of class to put together each performance. This year we had 18 division one ratings, and 13 advanced to state! These students have been invited to perform at The University of Texas at Austin for the State Solo and Ensemble Competition. The state competition offers our students an opportunity to perform for college professors in venues such as the UT recital halls. If you would like to see pictures, keep an eye on our Facebook and Twitter pages.
If you have these students class please congratulate them:

Our Visual Arts kiddos competed at the Visual Arts Scholastic Event in San Marcos.
Out of 30 students who competed, 28 placed FIRST! And we're happy and proud to announce that THREE of those advanced to STATE. This is a big deal for us as the competition was fierce this year. We are so so proud of all of our students who worked very hard and created some absolutely amazing works of art. Their work will be on display in the upcoming weeks between rooms 210 and 211. Please stop by to take a look!

Guitar
Our students performed exceptionally well at the UIL Solo/Ensemble Contest! These students inspire and motivate their teacher on a daily basis with their tireless work ethic and passionate dedication to their music and academics. We are so proud of these students!
