The second annual Innovation Showcase is scheduled for Friday, April 21. If you were here last year then you know this is a spectacular event where our students have the opportunity to present the innovations they have been working on this year. In addition to all of the innovative projects on display, the FAST Astros cheerleaders are planning a performance for the event.

Visitors are invited to visit by between 9-11am. There will be a variety of projects showcased including a sculpture garden of pencil towers, solar ovens, a cardboard carnival and more! Plan to join us to celebrate the great work they have done this year!

The Governing Board of Fulton Academy of Science & Technology is seeking new members. If you are interested in having a voice in the future of FAST, this could be for you. The Governing Board is comprised of parents, professionals, and community members who collectively work to support the mission of the school. We will be holding a middle school transition meeting for rising 6th graders on Wednesday, April 19 at 6pm on Zoom. In this meeting, Ms. Walker, Mr. McKinley and the rest of the 6th grade team will discuss what FAST students can expect as middle schoolers. Parents of current 5th graders are strongly encouraged to attend to get your questions answered.

FAST will be offering summer school again this year for students who may benefit from a few more weeks of instruction. Classes will be 8am-12pm on 6/12-6/15, 6/20-6/22, and 6/26-6/29. More information will be available in the coming weeks.

End of year exams are scheduled to begin April 24. It is extremely important for students to be at school on time each day during exams to limit disruptions in the building. We ask that you avoid scheduling appointments during this window to the extent possible.

Student council has been busy planning a dance for our 7th & 8th grade students. The dance is scheduled for Thursday, April 20, 4:30pm-6:30pm at FAST. Tickets can be purchase through Membership Toolkit at: https://fastk8pto.membershiptoolkit.com/

The Donation Drive for Fur Kids and House Rabbit Rescue sponsored by the FAST Student Council, will be held from April 17-21. The following items are requested:

Pet Food

New or gently used towels and blankets

pet beds

Dog and cat treats

dog and cat toys, without buttons, plastic eyes or parts that could become choking hazards

tennis balls

rabbit food

cardboard boxes for rabbits to shred

animal carriers

pet food bowls

On Friday, April 21, we are looking for donations of these perishable items:

Donations can be brought to carpool or brought to Innovation Hall! Thank you for your support of our FAST Student Council!

This week we sent an email to all of our 8th grade parents with information about graduation and their overnight trip. The email contained a link to a survey for graduation tickets. If you have not yet completed the survey, we ask that you do as soon as possible so that we can plan accordingly. The email was sent at 5:30pm on Wednesday. If you did not receive it, please check your spam folder.

Most of our families have already responded to this survey, but if you have not yet we ask you to let us know ASAP whether or not you plan to return to FAST next year. As we offer seats to students on the waitlist, we want to be sure that we keep enough room for all of our returning students. We would love for all of our families to return, but understand that there are myriad of reasons why you may not. If you have any specific concerns that you would like to discuss, please reach out to us.

Please encourage your students to check the lost and found for any items they are missing. Our racks are full of jackets, hoodies, and sweaters. Items not claimed will be donated.

In an effort to streamline communications and ensure attendance records are being updated timely, we have created a new email for all attendance related correspondence. Going forward, please use attendance@fastk8.org for attendance related emails. If your student is going to be absent, you may email their homeroom teacher as well.

Please remember these policies which apply all the time:

• Parents must check in at the front office before going to Student Hall for any reason

• All volunteers on campus must have completed the Volunteer Registration

• Student Hall opens at 7:05am. Neither students nor parents are permitted in the building prior to that time

• Students should only be dropped off at designated carpool areas beginning at 7:05 am (i.e. in front of Student Hall or in the FAST Pass area)

• Students arriving after 8am must be signed in by a parent or guardian at the kiosk in the front office (students may not sign themselves in)

• Classroom visits for any reason should be cleared with the teacher in advance

• Students who do not attend FAST are not permitted to be on campus during school hours unless they are here for an event and are accompanied by their parent
• Early dismissal ends at 2:40pm. This is the latest time you may sign students out early.

We must all do our part to ensure that student safety is the top priority.

We are excited to have so many willing parents step up and help! The FAST Family PTO provides critical support to our school and can only be successful if willing parents STEP UP to HELP. Being a PTO Board Member allows you to make a direct positive impact on your child's school. Those parents who have been on the board for many years can step aside and let some new ideas shine!
