It was a great week last week, with our Band performing at the Big Band Bash. The band played a collection of songs they have been practising and were very entertaining. The Year 2 students who also attended had a great time playing a range of different fair games and eating fairy floss!
Our Open Night was also a success, with some new families attending a tour of the school and an information session about the great things that happen at Banksmeadow PS. We look forward to seeing these people and some more new faces at the Kindergarten Orientation session which will be held on Wednesday 14th September.
Congratulations to Taylise in Year 5. Earlier in the year, Taylise was selected as a member of the NSW Public Schools Primary Dance Ensemble. This ensemble was successful in being selected to perform at the State Dance Festival at the Seymour Centre. We wish Taylise luck in her performances.
This week our Kindergarten students will attend their first excursion, with a walk down to Sir Joseph Banks Park. Our School Sport students will also walk to the park on Friday, for a healthy picnic lunch. We hope all of these students have fun on their different excursions at the park!
Good luck to all students participating in the Dance Fever Challenge at Homebush on Thursday night. Please see Mrs Bragg's message below for further information about the night.
Ms Hoskins

* It would be appreciated if all invoices could be finalised before the end of the term please
PBL Expected Behaviours
This fortnight's focus behaviours are:
Be Safe
- Keep my hands and feet to myself
- Stay in bounds
Dance Fever
Students attending the Dance Fever Challenge at Homebush Sports Centre should arrive at 5.30pm this Thursday evening. The cost of entry is $6 per person, including dancers, and should be paid on arrival. Eftpos is not available.
All students need to be well- groomed. Boys should wear a collared shirt and long pants. Girls should wear a dress or skirt. The whole school dance performance is towards the end of the evening. Students are not allowed to change in the toilets, so please either wear your school dance clothing underneath your outfit or slip it over the clothes you wear on the evening. Years 3 and 4 need to wear a red t-shirt and black pants, jeans or tights for the school dance. Years 5 and 6 should wear a white t-shirt and black pants, tights or jeans for the school dance.
All children need to bring a bottle of water and a small snack to eat during the evening.
Kindergarten Orientation
Kindergarten orientation morning is next Wednesday 14th September from 9am-11am. New Kindergarten students will receive an invite this week in the mail to attend. Preschoolers will come up with their teachers. All parents are expected to attend the information morning in the hall between 9.30 and 11am.
School Uniform
Students have been making a great effort to ensure they wear the correct uniform and it has really improved the look of our school. In Term 4, we will change to the summer uniform. However, as the days are beginning to get a little warmer, students who wish to wear the summer uniform over the coming weeks may do so.
Sugar Workshop
Next Tuesday 13th September, Jenny Boss, a nutritionist, will be delivering student workshops to students in Years 1-6. She will speak about healthy eating, including information about the levels of sugar (both good and bad) in different foods.
On Tuesday evening (time to be advised), Jenny will also run a session for parents. Some of the topics she will cover include: catering for fussy eaters and making mealtimes less stressful. See the poster below for some more information.
Congratulations Hayden!
Last Wednesday night, Hayden attended the awards ceremony for the Eureka Science Competition. The University of Sydney Sleek Geeks Science Eureka Prize is awarded for a short film that communicates a scientific concept in an accessible and engaging way. Entries are in the form of a 1-3 minute film and must tell a real scientific story, which may be a scientific concept, discovery, invention, or the producer's own scientific hypothesis!
Hayden entered his short film about the Blue Bottle and the Glaucus, and was notified that he was in the top two entries within Australia. On Wednesday night, Hayden was announced as the winner of the competition in the primary schools category! An enormous congratulations goes to Hayden for this fantastic achievement. Hayden's efforts in completing and entering this video in his own time won him some fabulous prizes, including $1000 for the school! Well done Hayden! Visit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7qgbiDkP8A to view his winning entry.
Job Opportunity
A local electrical company has contacted the school with a job opportunity in an office administration position. MYOB and Microsoft Office a must. This job is part time, with flexible hours, meaning it would suit school drop off and pick up times. Please email your resume to: margaret@shamrockelectrical.com if you are interested.
Parent 'Tell Them From Me' Surveys - REPEAT
Tell Them From Me Surveys for parents are now open. The survey asks parents and carers questions about different factors that are known to impact on student wellbeing and engagement. It should only take about 15 minutes or less and is entirely confidential.
Information from this survey will help our school understand parents’ and carers’ perspectives on their child’s experience at school. These include: communication between parents/carers and staff, activities and practices at home and parent/carer views on the school's support of learning and behaviour. This valuable feedback will help our school make practical improvements.
Please complete the survey by visiting https://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/zz95f before 21st October.
