Spread the Love
We've all heard the quote, "Those who need love the most will ask for it in the most unloving of ways," and it can make our days challenging. It can be hard to love on people who make our days difficult, but most of the time, they are the ones who need that extra high five, a pat on the back, or a kind word.
As we move through this month, do your best to reach out to those around you that need something extra. If you need help with ideas about building relationships or increasing ratios of positive interactions, click on the picture to the right, or feel free to reach out to your Student Support Services coach!

Intermittent Celebrations
Intermittent celebrations are a great way to provide contingent positive feedback to students for exhibiting appropriate behavior. The key to these celebrations is that they are 'intermittent', meaning the student doesn't know when the positive reinforcement is coming. At the beginning of teaching a replacement behavior or using a new skill, you want to do this more frequently. As the student becomes more consistent with the behavior, you can begin to fade the celebrations.
What the student gets can also be varied from something as simple as verbal praise to a tangible reward such as a treat or earned activity time.
Classroom Strategies
Student of the Week!
"For student of the week, I try to choose someone different every week who has followed expectations all week, has no marks and gone the extra mile for that specific week. Every Friday at the end of class we do a prize box and reveal our student of the week. I write them a SAE and put it up on the board to read to the whole class about why I chose them, and they also know their parents will see what I write. Then they get a prize snack which they can pick which is usually like a bag of chips or cookies or candy!"
Thank you for sharing Abbey!

Varied Greetings and Entry Expectations
Having the entry expectations are helpful for students so that they know exactly what to do without having to ask. This can be done at any grade level!
