R-PTLE Weekly Family Communication
Week of October 23rd, 2023 (#9)
1/2 Day on Friday the 27th!
Dear Families,
There are AMAZING things happening in our classrooms. I am so grateful to be part of the group that is educating these young students. THE EDUCATORS IN OUR BUILDING ARE AWESOME! Please take a bit of time each day to ask your student(s) about the learning going on in the classrooms. I know it is had to get specifics out of our children sometimes. Consider asking specific questions instead of general questions - "tell me about what your teacher read today," instead of "What did you do today?" Once you get them talking about something specific, they will answer your questions more constantly.
With Halloween right around the corner, TLE will engage it a few fun activities this Friday. We invite all the students who would like to to bring their costumes to school to engage in a little Halloween fun during the last part of the day. We will not have parents join any of the classroom festivities during the last part of the day. We will also have a Trunk or treat gathering at TLE the evening of the 27th from 6-7 PM. More details listed below. With that said, there will be no costumes or activities the following week on the 31st.
Big news item for THIS week - 1/2 day of School on Friday the 27th! Dismissal is at Noon!

Costume Parade AND Trunk or Treat on the 27th!!!
COSTUME PARADE: During the last part of our day this Friday, a half day dismissal at noon, each classroom will enjoy their mates costumes which will end in a costume parade that will finish down our main parking side walk for our parents to pick up and our buses to load. If you are here to pick up your student(s), 3rd and 4th grade parents hangout around the ball field fence. 1st and 2nd grade parents hang out around the main parking lot sidewalk. KGers hangout by the buses (flag poles). Be careful as buses will be leaving and cars will be coming in for pick-up.
TRUNK OR TREAT: From 6-7 PM we will have a trunk or treat gathering at TLE. If you are joining in the "trunk" line, please be to the school at 5:30 to get set up. Our PTO has also secured a food truck for this event. Dodger's Doggies will be here to feed us, at a slightly reduced cost of $4 for a dog and chips, if you are interested.

Costume Needed???

Capturing Kids Hearts (CKH)
This Month's Theme is Self-Direct!
What does it mean to Self-Direct?
Self-Direction is the ability and learned skill to cast a vision of future goals and then take intentional steps toward who, where, and what we want to be. Instead of focusing on things to control or avoid, we emphasize our responsibility to make positive choices related to our emotions, attitudes, and actions.
Expectations are learned and practiced. Our routines have been established and practiced. Now, our choices, our attitudes, our actions and reactions towards those expectations will control our days at TLE. The self-directed student will take charge of his/her expectations and stay focused on improving.

Power School Demographic Update.
Important!
Updating your demographics in your parent portal is so critical to ensure effective communication, safety, and staying informed. Please follow the steps provided in the PDF below. If you already have a portal account the demographic update is fairly simple and straight forward. If you are new and need to create an account follow the steps below. Please call the office for assistance.
The portal will open this upcoming week. If you click on the link inside the PDF and it states the portal is temporarily disabled, please try again later. I am not sure when the portal will go live, but it will be live sometime early in the week. We will provide another set of instructions with pictures to help guide after the portal opens. I will send an updated newsletter with these updated instructions that may be easier to follow.
