March's Pillar word is COMMUNICATION. What is communication?
From Ms. Raeker
Thank you to everyone who donated to the food drive last month. We collected 861 items for the Little Food Pantry at Nike!! Due to the generosity of our families, we will now be able to stock the food pantry through the summer months which is AMAZING! Thank you again for being a part of a great community at Nike Elementary! Counseling lessons this month will focus on career exploration. We will be learning about different career options and looking at your student’s interests and strengths. I look forward to these fun lessons that encourage students to dream big.
Feel free to reach out by emailing sraeker@mvr3.k12.mo.us or call 636 271 1444 and ask for Ms. Raeker.
From the nurse
If your child has borrowed pants from the nurse's office, please be sure to get those items sent back to school as soon as possible!
MUSIC
Third and Fourth grades are preparing a performance entitled "It's Showtime!" on March 16 at 6 pm at Riverbend. Students with speaking parts please arrive no later than 5:30 p.m. dressed as a Hollywood/Broadway star. Students in the chorus please arrive no later than 5:45 p.m. wearing all black. We are so excited to show you what we have been working on all these months. See you there!
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me through email at rfenelon@mvr3.k12.mo.us or through the ClassDojo Messenger.
Art
Nike Artists were deeply involved during our study of ceramics. Pre-K and Kindergarten made pinch pots, First Grade turned pinch pots into cups, Second Grade made clay birds, and Third and Fourth Grades made coil pots. Some classes are eagerly awaiting the next step in the clay process: painting and glazing! Be on the lookout for projects coming home soon!
Looking to help out? We are in need of a few things in the art room:
Paper lunch bags, inexpensive paper plates (or leftover birthday ones), pony beads, and empty paper towel rolls. Anything is appreciated and we thank you for thinking of us!
Communication is key! I can be reached at cpatterson@mvr3.k12.mo.us or by calling the Nike office.
Library
March is going to be a busy month in the library! The Spring Book fair is going to March 13th - March 17th. March 13th will be a wish list AND shopping day for A day classes. March 14th will be a wish list AND shopping day for B day classes. There will be two parent breakfast mornings from 8:00-9:00 am. March 14th will be a breakfast for students with the last name A-L. March 17th will be a breakfast for students with the last name M-Z.
Students in third and fourth grade will be participating in an animal research project called March Mammal Madness. It is a tournament style "battle" and students will be researching animals to see who they think will win the final battle.
Students in kindergarten - second grade learned how to play the card game war. We had fun playing the game and learning how to use our sportsmanship skills. In March we will be reading some examples of fairy tales and Caldecott medal books.
PE
Friday, March 3rd will be the last HOCKEY intramural. The next round of intramurals, which will be soccer, will begin the week after Spring Break.
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to reach out and email me at dmissey@mvr3.k12.mo.us
Title Reading
Mrs. Hollstein's class practices reading skills daily focusing on the 5 components of reading. It is very important to read at home for 20 minutes, 5 days a week. At the end of this month, we will have a big celebration for students who receive Title 1 services and have been completing their daily reading. This month we are focusing on building your child's reading fluency. Reading fluency is the ability to read with sufficient speed to support understanding, the use of appropriate pausing, and the ability to read with expression.
Also, I look forward to seeing everyone for Parent Teacher conferences on March 2nd.
~Mrs. Hollstein
