Inclement Weather Plan
On Tuesday, January 2nd, our superintendent of schools sent out to the following message regarding our inclement weather plan. Please be sure to check your child's teacher's Class Dojo page for more details.
Dear CASD (Coatesville Area School District) Families,
With snow on the horizon, it’s time to go over what you can expect in the event of inclement weather! Following a careful review of key weather-related factors, building conditions, and fellow local school districts' plans, CASD may decide it is in the best interest of our students and staff to issue an early dismissal, delay the start of school, or close schools and offices for the day. We will make these decisions as soon as we can to inform you in a timely manner.
Should a change to our normal school schedule be required, families will be notified through email, call, and text alerts on district and school websites; and social and other media postings.
In addition to early dismissals, delays, and school closures, CASD has chosen to participate in the Flexible Instruction Day (FID) Program. A FID offers an online, alternative approach to delivering instruction due to weather or other emergencies when travel or access to our buildings is not possible. FID(s) eliminate the need for make-up days in the event of school cancellations. I am sure you can agree that it is important to do what we can to prevent extending the school year any later into the summer.
FLEXIBLE INSTRUCTIONAL DAYS: The first five (5) emergency/inclement weather days will be held as FIDs/virtual days. Student Expectations:
Elementary students will:
- continue the day rotation on a FID
- log into their teacher's Zoom room by 9:30 AM (Zoom address found on the teacher’s Canvas and Class Dojo pages).
- follow grade level schedules (see below)
- complete assignments that teachers provide and submit the assignments.
- be provided with the day's schedule for both synchronous (zoom meetings) and asynchronous work. All work will be posted to each teacher’s Canvas page.
Should emergency/inclement weather conditions interfere with access to virtual classes, CASD may elect to switch to a full closure, with all classes canceled. In that case, weather make-up days will be utilized per the district calendar schedule.
Additional emergency/inclement weather days beyond the five FIDs will be full closures and all in-person and virtual classes will be canceled. In these cases, weather make-up days will be utilized per the district calendar schedule.
Junior Achievement Lessons
On Wednesday, East Fallowfield welcomed Ms. Shaunte Norman from Fulton Bank to assist us with our Junior Achievement lessons. Our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students learned about earning, saving, and spending money. They also learned about creating and running a business. We are so thankful for this community connection!
Sundials in STEM
First grade students made sundials in STEM class last week! On the next sunny day, students will be able to place their sundials in the sun and look for the line shadow to tell time!
