Wagner Weekly Newsletter for the Week of November 20th
Happy Thanksgiving!
As we embrace the spirit of gratitude this season, we extend heartfelt thanks to our Wagner Community for your support. Your contributions mean the world to us and we couldn't do it without you. We wish you and your families a Thanksgiving filled with joy and good health.
Attendance Policy
The Department of Education has a system to alert families when their students are absent from school. When a student is marked absent, the family will receive an automated text message, phone call and/or email from the NYC Department of Education. Please note that if a student is not in their homeroom during the required time, between 8:25-8:30am, their teacher is mandated to mark them absent. We encourage you to take a moment to talk to your student about the importance of arriving on time to their homeroom. Thank you for your cooperation.
Reminders from Previous Newsletters
Early Dismissal
Students are not permitted to leave school on their own prior to the end of the school day (2:45pm). The parent/guardian or any adult listed on the student’s emergency contact card can pick them up from school.
When arriving to pick up your student, please inform one of our staff members in the lobby of your child's full name and homeroom class number. This will allow us to call your child down promptly. We kindly request that you avoid early pick up during their lunch period or right before dismissal. Thank you for your cooperation.
Donations
Cold and flu season is here and we need your support. To ensure a safe and healthy environment, we’re asking for donations of tissues, disinfecting wipes, paper towels, and hand sanitizer. Your contributions make a big difference. Donations can be dropped off at the school. A big thank you to all the families who have already donated!!
A Few Words from the Parents' Association
Parents’ Association Meeting
Nice to see many old and new faces at our PA meeting on the 17th! Special thanks to Ms. Duplessis for speaking about ARISTA, Wagner’s chapter of the National Honor Society. If you’d like more information about the program, go to ARISTA in Google Classroom. There’s plenty of time for students to join and support both our school and community.
We look forward to seeing you at our final PA meeting of 2023, scheduled for Friday, December 15th at 9am. Click here to register. All Wagner parents and guardians are welcome to attend!
Pies, Cakes, and Candy, Oh My!
Thank you to our fabulous Fundraising Committee for running a successful pie and cake sale. With your support, we sold 178 pies in total, including desserts donated to Common Pantry and Wagner teachers. If you ordered any items, please pick them up from Wagner this Monday, November 20th between 2:45 and 6pm.
Next up… Our See’s Candy holiday fundraiser! See’s is an amazing candy company that specializes in delectable sweets for all occasions. Visit our online store by December 1st to order some delicious treats in time for the holidays. Every purchase made helps our Parents Association reach its annual fundraising goal. We thank you for your support, and you’ll thank us for the peanut brittle recommendation. :-)
Wagner Wear Flash Sale through Tuesday, November 21st!
There’s still time to check out Wagner’s new limited edition designs, including the iconic subway shirt that until now was issued only to teachers and staff. We also have new hoodies and long sleeve shirts featuring Fall Sports teams (with winter teams coming soon). Click here to check out the collection and pre-order by this Tuesday the 21st! Items will arrive in plenty of time for the holidays.
Winter Parent Social
We’re excited to announce our next parent social which will be held on December 4th at 6:30pm at Framebridge, right around the corner from Wagner! Framebridge is graciously hosting us, providing drinks and nibbles at no cost. If you have anything you’d like framed, bring it along - or just peruse their offerings. For one week, Framebridge will donate 10% of any sales back to Wagner. Perfect opportunity to frame some holiday gifts while helping give back to the school!
Wagner Wishes
If you’re looking for a way to support the PA, please check out our Amazon wish list here. Every purchase goes directly to the PA, from treats for special events, to storage bins for all those treats. At the moment, we could especially use some of those bins so we can keep the Lay’s chips to ourselves and not any unwanted guests!
Family Appeal
The Parents’ Association budget at Wagner Middle School supports vital programs for over 1,100 students, including enrichment, staff development, technology upgrades, parent and student workshops, and so much more. Please support the PA and the Wagner community by making a donation. We’d love to have 100% family participation by June! Any amount is appreciated. Click here for more information. We’ll also be sending out some special news about Giving Tuesday!
Auction
The Auction Committee is off and running, planning for our annual auction party on May 10th! If you’d like to join the committee or just find out more about how you can help, please email Danika, Sara, and Marielle at wagnerauction167@mail.wagner167.org.
