The Newfane Alumni Association is offering an exciting opportunity for our students to attend a Camp Experience for FREE this Summer of 2023.

All transportation to and from camp Is to be provided by the family.

Scholarship applications must be received by the Newfane Alumni Association no later than Friday, February 10, 2023.

Applications can be sent in with your child to his/her school to be submitted.

A few weeks back, hundreds of get well cards were sent to Damar Hamlin yesterday on behalf of our caring students 💙💪🏽❤️

This year our school adopted a new reading curriculum, Amplify CKLA. We are extremely excited to be able to offer this evidence-based program to our students here at Newfane Elementary. In K-2, students receive reading instruction in 2 blocks: Skills (honing their phonemic awareness, learning their letter/sound correspondences, working on blending, mastering advanced vowel teams and more) and Knowledge (developing their vocabulary through content-rich read alouds and activities). Studies have shown that students need both to become skilled readers! Our 3rd and 4th graders have their reading blocks integrated, including both skills and knowledge in one.

As you'll see below, our students are having an amazing time with it!

Mrs. Niver's 2nd-grade students planned and wrote a persuasive speech that they delivered to President James Madison. The speech was based on the point of view of a War Hawk, arguing for the war, or from the point of view of a merchant in 1812, arguing against the war. The students dressed up and delivered their speeches to the class.

Miss Maybach’s reading group learned the sound for letter “P.” What better way to reinforce the sound then getting the opportunity to design and enjoy some pizza.

Mrs. Bailey’s students recently read a story in Amplify called “How to Eat a Guava.” To provide her students an authentic text to life connection, Mrs. Bailey and Mrs. Mahar brought in guavas for them to taste Although there were mixed reviews on the taste, one thing was for sure, they all loved the chance to give them a try!

Mrs. Noon's class had some fun with human chaining in class! Chaining is when we change one sound in a CVC (consonant, vowel, consonant) word to make a new word!

The students in Mrs. Dockery’s class enjoyed their Amplify Skill lesson of Chaining, which is a word building lesson to target their literacy sills.

Mrs. Ganshaw’s class is learning about Ancient Mesopotamia and used playdoh to make their own cuneiform words.

They also completed a whole class chaining activity similar to the one in Mrs. Noon's class, but using more advanced vowel teams. The students loved coming together to create different words!

Have you ever heard of a chaining folder? Our kindergarteners use them in their Amplify Skills lessons to construct and manipulate CVC words to gain a deeper understanding of how sounds come together to create words. As you can see, Mrs. Ulrich’s students love working with them!
