The Last Day Before Winter Break
...and All Through The School, Teachers Are Searching For Activities For Student Fun & Engagement!
Santa Tracker
Google's Santa Tracker is an excellent option for seasonal fun! Activities within the web app give students opportunities to code, draw and play games! My favorite activity is called Translation and lets students hear the seasonal greetings in languages around the world. https://santatracker.google.com/
The Incredibox web app will give your students a chance for musical creativity that is totally engaging. The iPad app has a cost attached, but graciously, the people at Incredibox offer significant portion for free on their website. Perfect for educators with no budget. Your students will LOVE this creative musical experience, which makes it perfect for a special occasion! It is a musical creativity web app that allows the user to add elements (beats, melodies, voices) to make their own songs. Just have students Google search Incredibox and click on one of the 1st four options. It will take of itself from there. Check out the sample below.

Geoguessr has been my favorite educational game for several years!!! It is built on Google Maps and takes students to virtual locations all around the globe and asks them to use the available clues to make an educated guess about it's location. It works in the browser on any device, and there is an iPad app as well. The game is so fun and very addicting! I encourage students to do internet research to discover more about what they are seeing in the images. This adds to the educational value of the game and also helps them reach high scores! Geoguessr isn't really a holiday game, but this is the time of year that I usually introduce it! NOTE a change in GeoGuessr, students will need to login with their email now.
Jigsaw Planet
Putting together a jigsaw puzzle is a great group activity! Have your students partner up and put together a jigsaw puzzle with a holiday theme. Jigsaw Planet has a search menu that allows student to search for whatever theme they want.
Creative Holiday Cards with PicCollage!
Give students the opportunity to create a holiday card in PicCollage! The cards below were created with students finding 9 fun background images, a selfie and then using the cutout option in PicCollage.
ClassroomScreen was created by a teacher who wanted a few tools that would be easily accessible all the time so he made a screensaver with his favorite teaching tools on the bottom. No login required. Just open and use! Includes dice, drawing app, text app, traffic light, timer, exit polling option and many other tools. I know many of you have these tools on your Smartboard, but you may enjoy these too. There is a campfire and yule log gif background and even one that allows you to show your own live video feed of your own classroom. Check it out.
