Oak Lawn-Hometown School District 123 collaborated with nearby districts and first responders Wednesday in their 16th annual First Responders Meeting, highlighting school and community safety efforts. Joined by School Districts 122 and 229, the event is part of an ongoing commitment to community engagement and safety.
Sward staff and students have welcomed several new faces to our school and we will be introducing each of them to you over the next few weeks. Our first new Sward teacher we would like to introduce is Ms. Tasneem Rayyan who joins our 3rd grade team.
The newest Mustangs of OLHMS have made the most of their first month of middle school! Our 6th grade class has learned about the traditions, culture, and spirit of Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School and are loving every second of being here!
Last Thursday, we welcomed all of our families as they flooded our OLHMS hallways for Open House! Open House is an opportunity for students and families to meet their teachers, for students to show their families their classroom, and for families to learn more about their child's learning.
On Friday September 15, students came to school with their grandparents to have goodies! It was such a special morning said Okami a second grade Cougar he was so excited to share his new school with his grandparents. Cougars got to enjoy a delicious spread of sweets provided by Covington's PTO.
The SEL commitee and Covington PTO held their annual bingo and ice cream social on Thursday, September 14. The event brought more than 350 people to play bingo and eat some Culver's Custard. Families got the chance to win awesome prizes and even a raffle was held!
Fundations is taught in District 123 classrooms in grades K-2. The program teaches the foundational skills of reading and writing. Many people refer to this as "phonics". Leveled instruction focuses on "sound mastery". Students learn the letter name, its formation and its sound simultaneously.
The hallways of Hometown were filled with the sweet aroma of coffee again this week ,as we welcomed the return of our famous CASE coffee cart. This program was developed several years ago as a way to help our CASE students with life skills.
1st graders played a game during social studies to help them understand why rules are so important! They are focusing on playing fair and being good sports!
