NFHS CITATION AWARD

The NFHS Citation Award is presented to an athletic administrator who has made significant contributions to the NFHS and/or other national organizations that have impacted high school activities.
Among the factors that will be considered:
An Individual who has a long-standing and distinguished record of involvement with high school activities programs at the local and state levels
Service to the MSSADA (board positions held, committees, tournament management, etc)
Service to NFHS and/or NIAAA (positions held, committees, conference participation, i.e., speaker, president, delegate, host committee, articles published, etc.)
Individuals are recognized as among the best in their profession by their colleagues.
Athletic Director of The Year Award

The Athletic Director of the Year award recipient is selected by a committee established by the MSSADA and chaired by the State Awards Chairman. The committee is composed of retired and current high school athletic directors. Each District is permitted to nominate one person from their district as the District Athletic Director of the Year. The Executive Committee will choose one nominee to be honored as the Massachusetts Athletic Director of the Year. (This individual will be someone who has not received this award previously).
This award is in recognition of an athletic administrator from across the state who exemplifies the highest standard of their profession and who, through their influence on the lives of coaches and student-athletes under their direction, have made significant contributions within the field of athletic administration to their schools, and community.
Specifically, the candidate shall have outstanding achievements in the following areas:
a. recognized in his/her community as an educational leader, and who maintains athletics as
an integral part of the total educational program.
b. made significant impact on the lives of students and coaches
c. made significant contributions within the field of athletic administration to your school or
community
d. made contributions within the field of athletic administration at the local, state, and/or
National levels
The Joao Rodrigues Distinguished Service Award

This award is presented annually to recognize one individual from each of the nine MIAA athletic districts who have volunteered their services to the schools and communities in their district. The recipient of this award will not be a paid member of the coaching staff but will have a longstanding involvement within the high school activities program at the local level.

Each District is permitted to nominate one athletic director who currently is serving or retired for their length of service, special accomplishments, and contributions to high school athletics at the local and state levels.
The Ted Damko Award

The recipient of this award will be an athletic administrator having five or less years of experience in the field and have made significant contributions to his/her school, league, district and/or state.

The "Yoshitaka Ando" award was created to honor Ando, for his lifetime of servant-like attitude, dedication, and a willingness to go above and beyond what is expected in the field of athletic training.
This award is to recognize an individual who has gone the extra mile to enhance the health, and safety of student-athletes, exceptional service, and their unique contributions to the athletic training profession.

This award is presented to an individual(s) outside the field of interscholastic athletic administration in recognition of their service to interscholastic athletics.

The “Mickey Sullivan” Student Achievement Award

This is presented annually to student/students who have made a meaningful/lasting contribution to high athletics.
The Professional Development Award

This award is presented to an individual who possesses commitment and dedication to the vision of Professional Development at both the state and local levels.
MSSADA Richard E. Lewis Award

Each District is permitted to nominate one person from their area and the Executive Committee will choose one nominee to be honored.
This award will be presented to an individual who embodies the virtues of an outstanding, model athletic administrator. This individual should be someone who is recognized by colleagues for his/her continued support and guidance of others in the profession. In addition, this individual should be someone who has brought new individuals into the profession, as well as helped others continue to grow in their roles as athletic administrators. He/she should be someone who fully supports the athletic administration profession, all that it encompasses; and one who shows it through his/her work at the league, district, and state level.
Criteria:
Specifically, the candidate shall have outstanding achievements in the following areas:
a. Active Athletic Administrator
b. Minimum of 5 years of experience as an athletic administrator
c. Leadership role at league, district, or state level
d. Personal Letter of Recommendation from at least 1 colleague (fellow athletic director)
min 250 words explaining how the nominee embodies the virtues of a model athletic
administrator.
