Silver Lake Intermediate November 3, 2023
SLI Families:
SLI Families:
Don't forget to set your clocks back an hour for Daylight Savings this weekend.
Next week is looking like a busy one! 8th graders taking Chinese class are going to Chinatown in Chicago. All 8th graders are going to an Admiral's Game. 7th graders are visiting the Veterans Memorial Park. Our 5th graders have their monthly social on November 9 after school.
Silver Lake's Veterans Day Breakfast & Assembly is being held on Thursday, November 9. Please spread the word to veterans you know and fill out the form for planning purposes! You can find more information in our newsletter. Speaking of our veterans, SLI was gifted a monetary donation from our local VFW 2260 to help support students with their lunch fees.
Also spread the word about donating a canned or boxed food item for the Thanksgiving Meal Food Drive going on now through Nov. 10. Last year we collected 760 food items! I remember my heart overflowing with gratitude and thankfulness as that was over 200 more items from the year before. If you are able to donate a food item, it would be appreciated.
Have a great weekend.
Mrs. Jill Marr

What is SOAR time?
Additionally, students may be involved in small strategy group work. Some strategy group work is more formalized in intervention programming. Other strategy groups are focused on extending strengths (enrichment) or flexible to provide more small group instruction on grade level skills that may need additional instruction and practice. If your child is receiving formalized intervention programming, you will receive communication outlining the focus of that programming. Other groups are designed to be flexible and focused on a specific skill or goal. While SLI has been providing interventions and targeted groups in the past, this school year our goal is to provide even more students opportunities to improve their academic achievement.

DĂa de los Muertos,
DĂa de los Muertos, which is celebrated mostly in Mexico on November 1 and 2, is like a family reunion—except dead ancestors are the guests of honor. DĂa de los Muertos is a joyful time that helps people remember the deceased and celebrate their memory.
In learning about the significance of this huge holiday, 8th grade students got to create decorated skull keychains. To make the skull key chains, students got to pick a design of their choice and trace it on to the magical paper known as Shrinky Dink paper. The look of wonder and amazement was awesome as students watched as their skulls shrunk down in size.
The question asked after this adventure was, “What else can we make into Shrinky Dinks?”
Señorita Neidert's answer, “Let’s see what the next unit brings about!”

This new system will allow you to apply for a permit 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from any computer, tablet or smartphone. You will make your payment through the system as well. The department will mail a paper copy of the permit directly to your child's employer.

We Need More Substitutes!
Our school needs more short-term substitute teachers, paraprofessionals, and custodians - can you help?
As a short-term sub, you have the flexibility to choose which school you would like to work at, and what schedule works best for you. Use this online form for a fast and easy application process if you’re interested in joining the OASD as a short-term substitute.
Long-term substitute teacher, paraprofessional, and custodian positions are also available at all of our OASD schools. You can apply online through WECAN for a long-term position by creating an account, then searching for Oconomowoc Area School District in the support staff section.
Please consider working for the OASD and making a positive impact on our school and students!
