SCC MS Welcome Back Message
August 20, 2020
Welcome to 2020-2021!
Greetings SCC Middle School Parents and Guardians,
It was great seeing all of you and your children at the 5th/6th/7th Grade Open Houses. I appreciate the cooperation and understanding you displayed by staying longer and attending the planned times. I look forward to seeing all the 8th Grade families and students next Wednesday, Aug. 26th for your Open House. Our faculty and staff are excited to have all our young Panthers back in the building!
As we plan for a beginning like no other we have seen before, our focus will still be to ensure that:
every child, every day, is finding a way to feel connected
every child, every day, is being challenged by new learnings and experiences
and every child, every day, knows they have a champion they can turn to
Spring of 2020 has challenged staff and students to find a new normal for learning, connected us in new ways and required our middle school staff to champion from afar. What I have most learned through this process is how much I appreciate the expertise and empathy our teachers bring to SCC Middle School. What I MOST appreciate about SCC Middle School is how even under circumstances we have never experienced, we are still a learning and caring community.
As we get ready to return, we know that there is a lot of uncertainty. The SCC Middle School Team is working vigorously to provide a safe educational environment for our students. SCC Middle School Staff will continue to make sure our students learn through the different circumstances that come before us. Normal is such a simple word, and it is our goal at SCC Middle School to not only find our new normal, but to use this time as a learning experience that will forever impact the learning environment of SCC. Our fall may not be “normal,” but our learning will not only continue, but it will thrive. We can’t wait to move on to the next phase of learning under Covid-19 and we know, all returning and new students to SCC Middle School will be welcomed with open arms (from 6 feet away) to our community - we will continue to grow!
What is new or on the horizon for the SCC Middle School? For 20-21 our school day will be structured differently, and we will not be using a bell schedule format. The structure is being changed to adapt to new requirements for Covid 19 and to allow us to keep hallways less packed and populated. We have also made a major adjustment to the student's P.E., Band, and Choir schedule. To allow us to offer the Arts and P.E. we had to reduce class sizes. By doing so P.E., Choir, and Band will be offered on a 4-day rotation until it is safe to return to normal class sizes . This is a big change, but we are thrilled to be able to offer these classes. Other major changes due to Covid 19 include:
Drop off time--No earlier than 7:30 (Please contact Mr. Nusbaum if this is an issue)
Students will go to their Advisory/Homeroom as they enter the building.
Breakfast will be offered and is a "Grab & Go".
Students and staff are required to wear a face covering inside the building unless presenting from a safe distance.
Students and bus drivers are required to wear a face covering on the bus.
Students will not be changing for P.E. for the first two months of school.
We will use a staggered release at the end of the day. (7th Grade-3:10, 6th Grade--3:12, 8th Grade--3:13, 5th Grade--3:15)
No Teen Center will be offered after school.
Thank you to all of you for the never ending support you give us all. You make a difference in our ability to succeed in all areas at St. Croix Central Middle School. We couldn’t do it without you!
Sincerely,
Pete Nusbaum
