English I STAAR Field Testing - Feb. 9-10
Our campus has been chosen to participate in the English I STAAR Field Test on Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 9-10. The purpose of this field test is to evaluate new types of questions being considered for a future STAAR redesign. Students will not be impacted by their performance on this field test, nor will we receive any individual results or data. The benefit to students participating in this field test will be using the online testing system, which is what will be used for the Spring STAAR testing. If you have any questions please contact Pam Brown, District Test Coordinator, at 806-863-7135 or pbrown@lcisd.net.
February is CTE Month
Career Technology Education (CTE) provides learners with the knowledge and skills they need to be prepared for college and careers. CTE gives purpose to learning by emphasizing real-world skills and practical knowledge within a selected career focus. Students in CTE programs take specialized courses, in addition to required courses, and often have the opportunity to participate in internships, engage with mentors and practice what they are learning through hands-on projects. Students can participate in CTE at the middle or high school level and at postsecondary institutions in all communities, in all states, across the U.S.
CTE Spotlight - Baking & Pastry
Student chefs in Mrs. Allen's Baking & Pastry classes have spent the year learning the basics of the bakeshop. They have covered cookies, bars, candy, and pies. This spring semester started off with yeast bread. Chefs are currently working on a yeast roll challenge and were able to choose a flavor profile and prepare a unique packaging, flyer, and menu item. Tres Leches, Strawberry Shortcake, Pistachio Dark Chocolate, Maple Bacon, and Spinach Artichoke are a few flavors that the groups developed.
Students will finish the year with laminated dough, cakes, and plated desserts.
