Sierra School Scoop

Dear Sierra Families,

Next week we begin our state testing for third-fifth grade in Math and English Language Arts. By working together, we hope to make this experience positive and successful for each child. Here are some suggestions that you can do to help your child:

• Get a good night's sleep
• Eat a filling and healthy breakfast at home or in the cafeteria (breakfast & lunch are FREE)
• Make sure to arrive on time (testing sessions begin promptly at 9:00am each day)
• Encourage your child to do their personal best!

As we continue to head toward the end of this school year, please make sure to read our weekly newsletters for important information about upcoming events. We hope to have many parents and families participating and supporting our students.

The Sierra School 2023 Yearbook is available for sale. Yearbooks are $20 each and will not be sold at school, so please make sure to order yours online today. The order form is located on our school website and can be found by following the link below. The deadline to order is Monday, May 1, 2023.

Hello Dragons!

We are coming to the end of the school year so quickly! We only have 2 more weeks to check books out. May 5th will be the last day for all checkouts, all books will be due back on May 12th. Our Spring Literati book fair will be arriving May 10th, we will be setting up for sales and our class previews. All sales will take place May 12th-19th, we will be open for TEAM Sierra’s ice cream social and for Open House as well as during school hours. If your student has a book that is missing, please contact me at dgervaise@pusdk8.us if you have any questions on replacing or paying for the book. You may have received an email reminder for overdue from our new library program Destiny. Thank you to those parents that have helped locate missing books to get them returned. The last day to earn the Highest AR Point award for 2-5th grade will be May 5th. Winners will be announced at stretch on May 12th. Remember, good things happen when you read!

May 5- Bring on the sunshine and join us for the FUN RUN, during school hours. Times and details TBA. We would LOVE to have parent volunteers at this event, fingerprints required. We will be opening a sign up sheet as the date gets closer.

May 8-12 - Staff Appreciation Week

Do you have a delicious soup or salad you would love to share with our amazing staff?

On Friday May 12, TEAM is providing lunch for our staff members. We would love for families to contribute, too! Bring your favorite soup in a crock pot or salad to share. TEAM will set up prior to staff lunches. If interested, please email TEAM @ TEAMSierra.Sparky@gmail.com.

Please join us for a campus clean-up day on May 6th from 9am-1pm. We'll be doing yardwork and poster making for Staff Appreciation Week, so bring your yard tools and poster making supplies. Together, we can make our campus shine!

Team Sierra is combining their pizza raffle night with the Ice Cream Social this year. Ice Cream will be free and food will be available for purchase. Plus, there will be a great selection of raffle prizes and Student Council will be hosting a rummage Sale. Don's miss this event...it's sure to be a good time.

The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) provides eligible households up to $30 a month, or $75 a month for households toward their internet bills, as well as a one-time discount of up to $100 to purchase a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet. FREE GROCERIES & CLOTHING! Visit the Family Resource Center/Clothing Closet on the Schnell campus on Wednesday, April 26 from 12-4pm. Community HUBS will also be there at 1:30 offering FREE DIAPERS! This event is for families whose children attend Schnell, Markham and Sierra schools.

Free online training for families with children who have anxiety, depression, anger and other difficulties.
