4th Grade Science with Mr. McIntosh
Looking Back -
We’re off to a great start for our new semester, and it was fun looking at the reasons for eclipses and to examine why they only happen at certain times and in places in the world. Many students love the study of astronomy, and it’s easy to understand why it’s fascinating for so many young scientists. We will move on to a more detailed look at our moon.
Looking Ahead –
We will continue our study of the moon by looking at the features of this natural satellite and what we know, or think we know, about its past. How did the craters get there? How did the mountains of the moon form and what was the geologic history of the moon? We’ll look at these questions and explore some of the same questions about the moons of other planets as well. This will be an interesting conclusion to our unit on the Earth, moon, and sun.
Special Note: You will see the first Stride Science lesson assigned for next week in your weekly plan. We will discuss this in our Class Connect session next week.
News of Astronomy for the Week: Since we have been discussing our moon, I thought I would share an article about the 79 moons of Jupiter (at least the ones that we know of). Astronomers found twelve of them in the past year. Yet more proof that the world of science is always expanding. Check out this article in Discover magazine to learn more about the crazy moons of this gas giant in our solar system.
