Mountain View Weekly Update
February 17
Announcements & Updates
- Mountain View Middle School is up for its fifth redesignation as a New Jersey Schools to Watch, which recognizes middle schools that not only implement best practices but continue to strive for excellence. The school's written application was submitted in the fall, and we have been selected to host a site visit, the final portion of the application. As part of the visit, members from NJSTW (current and retired teachers and administrators) will come to Mountain View for the day on Wednesday, February 23, to observe the school in action. The committee will also meet with various stakeholders, including parents, students, teachers, and administration. To learn more about the Schools to Watch program, click here.
- Important reminders for 8th grade parents:
- Baby photos wanted! Please submit your child's photo to be included in the Yearbook by February 25. Photos can be turned in via the Google Form on your child's 8th grade Google Classroom page.
- The due date for the 8th grade trip initial deposit is TODAY. A reminder email was sent on Tuesday, 2/15.
- For students interested in trying out for a Spring sport (LAX, Baseball, Softball):
Sports forms must be submitted to the Health Office by Friday, March 4. All PPE's will be reviewed by Mrs. Austenberg and cleared for try-outs by the school physician before the Spring season. Tryouts are scheduled for the week of March 14.
Students who do not have the mandated PPE (and HHU if needed) turned in will not be eligible to try out.
Dr. Porter will be in to clear all PPEs on March 10.
Security Drill notice
This afternoon (February 17), a school safety drill was conducted to practice the district’s processes and procedures in the event of an emergency. We successfully completed a lockdown drill with all students and staff.
The safety and well-being of our learning community is the district’s highest priority. We conduct safety drills frequently throughout the school year to prepare all students and staff.
We are reaching out to inform you that this was a routine drill, and there is no reason for alarm or concern. Throughout the school year, we will continue to send notifications confirming the completion of a school security drill.
A note from Ms. Walsh
Happy Thursday Mountain View! I hope everyone had a great week and is looking forward to their long weekend ahead.
Let’s talk about communication. Communicating is something we do every day, but sometimes the way that we communicate is not always as effective as we intend. For middle schoolers, communication can be even more difficult as they navigate the different stages of learning about themselves and their feelings. How can we help them to learn how to communicate better? The easiest way is to model it ourselves. Check out the linked article and the graphics below for some great communication tips and tricks!
