Mustang Minute
Friday, September 2nd
From the Principals' Offices
Welcome back! We are so excited to be starting another school year with you all at Brookwood Elementary School and Brookwood Middle School!
For those of you who are new to the district, the Mustang Minute is the weekly newsletter that we will be sending out to Brookwood families each Friday of the school year. It will contain information about important upcoming events, celebrations, and a recap of cool stuff that happened at both BES and BMS that week. Taking time to skim over the "MM" is a great way to hear about all of the amazing things happening at Brookwood and to ensure that you won't miss out on any important happenings.
This past week was an amazing one as we kicked off our school year in both buildings. Teachers returned to us on Monday and engaged in various professional development opportunities as a district, within their buildings, and in grade level and content teams. We hosted Open House on Tuesday and it was GREAT to see our students and families once again! And, our first two days of school are also already under our belts! Teachers and students enjoyed their time in reconnecting with each other and our schools, and are already diving into the learning!
On behalf of the entire Brookwood staff, we are honored to once again work alongside you to support ALL of our students into Growing into Greatness!
Sincerely,
Mr. Braden
Principal, BES &
Mrs. Franz
Principal, BMS

ANNOUNCEMENTS
First Day of School: Welcome Back, Mustangs!
Students at BMS were greeted by the teachers, some loud music, and excitement. They then spent the day reconnecting with staff and each other through engaging in various culture building activities and fun learning opportunities. From a "string baseball lab" to obstacle courses, to planting daffodils...these kids were immediately immersed in fun, hands-on learning.
Initially students at BES were excited (and a bit nervous) on day one. But, those nerves turned into such positive energy as they got to know their teachers and new classmates. We are looking forward to a great school year. Thank you for all the support we received at open house and on the first day.
We are elated to have had such a strong start to the school year and can't wait for the months ahead!

BES & BMS School Morning Entry Procedures
Thank you in advance for helping us to keep our students safe by observing the following drop off guidelines:
BMS:
Enter the parking lot through the south entrance.
Pull your vehicle all the way up so as to line up in a single file line alongside the curb.
Be mindful of cars behind you! During drop off, release your student from your vehicle as soon as you pull up to the curb, then exit the lot from the north entrance. Do not park and wait.
Please do not at any time exit the line of cars. Weaving in and out of the line poses a safety concern for students leaving the building on foot or on their bike.
Drive slowly, and pay close attention while driving in the parking lot.
If your child bikes or walks to school, please know that teachers will not be outside to supervise until 7:25am. Doors to the building will open promptly at 7:30am.
BES:
- The BES doors will open at 8:20.
- School Day starts at 8:30.
- We ask if parents are walking their children to the door, please park in street parking. Yellow curb sections are for drop off only.
- Help us keep kids safe by driving slow and show caution as students and pedestrians cross. We will have two crossing guards to assist with street crossing at the corners.
- We do not have supervision outside prior to 8:20.

This year, the first recipient of this highly coveted award is Ms. Metcalf. According to Mrs. Franz, "Ms. Metcalf has been absolutely instrumental in getting us ready for this school year. She has come in several times on her own time this summer to work with me on athletics, student behavior support, and ELA curriculum adoption. She has also gone above and beyond in helping some of our new employees get acclimated to BMS." Thanks so much, Ms. Metcalf, for all you do to support us all in Rising into our Greatness!
From the Athletic Director...
Welcome back, Mustangs! I hope everyone is as excited as I am for Brookwood athletics! We have an exciting week coming up - both softball and cross country start! Mark your calendars now: cross country’s first practice is Tuesday, September 6th, and softball’s first practice is Wednesday, September 7th. We look forward to seeing all of our aspiring athletes next week!
As a reminder, in order to be able to participate in any Brookwood sport, we need to have signed concussion and cardiac arrest forms on file before you can play. If you filled them out at Open House you’re good to go! If you have not, please see the attached forms to read through the information and sign a copy to return to the office. Both a parent and a student form must be submitted. Students can get paper copies from Coach Metcalf as well.
This year, we will be running Spiritwear orders a little differently. Please keep your eyes open for a link from me that will take you to the online store through PFI. This store will be open through the end of September and includes Spiritwear for all of our sports. This same online store will be available again in the spring semester for the month of January. These will be the only two times to order athletics Spiritwear this year. All orders are delivered to me at the school unless you choose to pay for home delivery.
Finally, I am looking for student volunteers who would like to take a leadership role in school spirit! If you are interested in being a Super Fan and helping to plan pep rallies, participating in athletic announcements/game recaps, or creating locker decorations, please email me at jessica.metcalf@gcj2.k12.wi.us or stop by my classroom.
Go Mustangs!
