Our Mission:
Principal's Message
As the NCAA college basketball regular season winds down, the talk of "March Madness" ramps up. We have our own "March Madness" as students are asked to plan their classes in high school to match their interests and to meet graduation requirements.
While our seniors have time to work on their senior presentations in Homeroom, registration for classes continues for other students as they work on their four year plans. Resources for registering for classes are found on the MHS website. Any students interested in Running Start and other dual credit opportunities should also plan on attending the dual credit meeting this Wednesday held virtually in a Zoom meeting format. It is important for both students and an adult to attend to make sure you both are aware of the options available and expectations involved with each option.
If you have any questions about the dual credit meeting, please contact your student's counselor. Their contact information is available in the newsletter.
Go Trojans!

Teacher Feature
Webster Kurz - History Department
Mr. Kurz has been working in the Meridian District for 19 years, but at the high school he’s been working for 16 years. He also coaches football and middle school track and field. He’s coached football for 19 years and middle school track and field for 7 years. His favorite thing about teaching at Meridian is the community, he says it feels like a family. The closeness of the teachers and the community members is what makes it feel so special and community like. He chose this career because he didn't want to be stuck in a cubicle without any social interaction. He wanted a job that had interaction, served others and had a positive impact. He loves the relationships he has with students and that he has their back. In Mr. Kurz's free time he loves to play any kind of sport, for example, playing golf. He also enjoys hanging out with his family and friends and playing any kind of games with them. Mr. Kurz also added that he loves being involved with the Meridian Community. He can’t see himself being anywhere but here. The friendships he’s had at Meridian with the teachers and students are ones he won’t forget. His highlight from working at Meridian was when the community came together to build the new High School. Also when he had the chance to coach three times at football state championships. The opportunity was really important to him.
Students say their favorite thing about Mr. Kurz is “really tolerant of everyone’s opinions,” “he always has specific intentions behind what he does,” and “he can be a really chill guy.”
Teacher Feature is provided by Bhavnoor Dhatt. Bhavnoor is a leadership student that will be providing the Teacher Feature as part of her personal project for Leadership class.
NATIONAL MEATBALL DAY
There are early recipes for meatballs found in ancient Chinese, Arabic and Roman texts—and every culture seems to have their own version! Beef, pork, and veal are most popular, but they can be made with chicken, fish or even vegan. Let’s all eat some yummy meatballs on March 9 in honor of National Meatball Day.
Request Transcripts Through Parchment
Meridian High School has partnered with parchment.com to fulfill transcript requests for current students and MHS alumni. Transcripts are securely sent electronically to colleges and universities across the nation, resulting in a reduction of lost documents at the financial aid offices. The service is free of charge to current students. Alumni pay a small fee. Please make sure that your intended college accepts electronic transcripts.
Please find the “Order transcripts through Parchment” link under Families & Students/Resources on the MHS website. Current students may call Mrs. Brinkman or Mrs. Waterman to receive their Parchment access code at the MHS office 360-398-8111.
Attendance Information
Being present in class is vital to be successful in school. We want to encourage all of our students to be at school every day! If you are missing school, you are missing out on learning!
