Checking In
Good Afternoon,
During this last couple of weeks we have been taking applications for the Reconfiguration Advisory Committee. The successful applicants, as well as the teams nominated by SMS, Skyview, and SOHI, will be announced early next week. We will be reviewing the applications September 3rd. The first Advisory Committee meeting will be September 10th, 5:30 @ SMS library. The meetings are open to the public to observe but the conversations will be among the representatives on the advisory committee. If audience members wish to contribute or ask questions they will be able to either through contacting a member of the task force, or by emailing me directly: dhayman@kpbsd.k12.ak.us.
Our first agenda item will be to establish our operating norms and then to identify the assignments of the group along with the parameters our recommendations need to follow. For example, we may propose to paint all buildings green (this is an exaggeration) but along with our recommendation we will need to identify the funding source and the timeline. We will continue to meet throughout the fall with the final meeting being before Thanksgiving.
The head building administrators will be at work this weekend. I have called them together to begin the huge task of staffing. Our goal date of mid-January is a long way off, but the work begins now in creating our staffing formulas and assignments. I had the privilege of meeting with Neil Denny and Patty Sirois, the presidents of the teacher and support unions. KPEA/KPESA staff is being consulted to help minimize the disruptions to both teaching and support professionals in their buildings and to insure the smoothest transition possible.
You will notice that this electronic flyer is designed to share. I encourage you to share this with anyone who is interested in this project. It is as easy as clicking the "facebook" or other buttons. This will be a complex and emotional transition, but one thing that will help with the communication and ease emotions is the transparency of sharing all the information. You can help with that.
Sincerely,
Doug Hayman
Transition Coordinator
