Charles II of England is thought to be the originator of wearing a pocket watch for men while women still wore them around their neck. Charles the II invented waistcoats in 1675 that changed the shape of them and how the watch was worn.

In the Renaissance, having a Pocket Watch was for males and it symbolized that you were wealthy until making pocket watches became an easy task. In the Renaissance, the Pocket Watches were egg-shaped and bulky. The front of the case was rounded to protect the dials before things like crystals were added to make them look more attractive. Having a watch was very cool and privilege in the Renaissance although it just showed the time, but being able to tell the time and having it everywhere was a very big invention.
how has the pocket watch changed throughout the years?
Some things that were important to it's development was screws which allowed for change to modern flat shape. It allowed a brass lid to be attached. The lid protected the dial from damage. Before the changing of clocks and wristwatches, the early Pocket Watch only had a hour hand.
