Carolina Springs Elementary
September 2020
A message from our principal, Mr. Brown
I am so humbled and excited to be able to write this message to you as the Principal of Carolina Springs Elementary School.
Welcoming our students back this week has been an amazing experience! We see the excitement in their eyes and there is such joy in knowing they are back learning with us again. Our entire staff shares the same joy and excitement about being back.
As I have visited each classroom (even many of the virtual ones) I have been so proud of your children and how they have adapted to the new procedures and routines in place to ensure the health and safety of our students. I have been particularly impressed with everyone wearing their masks to school and in classrooms. They have been troopers about it! I believe that if you ask your children about having two recess times they will say they are enjoying that as well!
Finally, I want to say thank you to all of our parents who have been patient and flexible in starting this year. There certainly has been some challenges, but together we have overcome most of them to have a successful start. Thank you again!
#BetterTogether,
Todd C. Brown
From the Attendance Office:
Absence Excuses
** ALL excuses must be turned in to the Attendance office no later than 3 days after returning to school.
**Excuses received after the 3 days, will not be accepted.
** 10 Parent Notes per year are allowed.
**An email to the teacher, does not guarantee the Attendance office will receive it. Always send in a physical excuse.
Tardys
Please remember that the tardy bell rings at 7:50. If a student is arriving at 7:50, or later the student must be walked in by a parent. The only excused tardy is with a Medical Excuse. 3 Unexcused tardies may be turned into an Unexcused Absence.
Notes from Nurse Trish
We are starting off this school year so well. I am loving getting to know the kids!
Just as a friendly reminder, if your child is going to need medication - either scheduled, or as needed, please make sure you are filling out the Medication Permission form and sending a month's supply only for prescription medications. Please keep in mind that we are only physically in school 2 days a week, so that month supply should only be enough on hand to treat those 2 days a week for 1 month.
The Medication permission form can be found on the Lexington1.net website. Choose "I am.. Parent", then scroll down to "Health" and then you will see the form there. This form is required in order to treat your child with any medication here at school. If it is an over the counter medication, the physician does not need to fill out the form, only the parent. Physicians must fill out the form for prescriptions.
Due to the restrictions on visitation, please make an appointment to drop off medications and forms.
Also, Immunizations are required to be up to date within 30 days of school starting. This applies for face to face students as well as all virtual students. If your child is going to get vaccinations, please send a copy of the SC Immunization Certificate to the school. You are welcome to fax that directly to Nurse Trish at 803-821-5054. I will be contacting those who need to get updated immunizations via email.
As always - please let me know if you have any questions or concerns! I am happy to help!
Thank you!
Nurse Trish

From the Library
Would you like to remember your child's birthday and benefit the Learning Commons (library) at the same time? You can do so by joining the Birthday Book Club! Donate $10 to the Learning Commons in your child's name. A book will then be selected for our collection and a bookplate with your child's name will be placed inside the cover.
Children in the Birthday Book Club will be honored during their birthday month with a special birthday surprise and they'll choose a book from our special BBC area and be the first person to check it out!!
If your child participated in the Birthday Book Club last year and didn't get their book or surprise because school closed early, they will be invited in the next couple of weeks to pick up their surprise and check out their book!
Please contact Mrs. Merritt at smerritt@lexington1.net if you have any questions!!!
