CBC YOUTH: PARENTS EDITION

We exist to glorify God by making disciples of all people through Gospel truths and Gospel living. Our hope is to equip parents to serve as the primary disciplers of their youth.

I recently conducted a seminar at SWCBC on Middle School ministry. We covered everything from development to needs to lasting as leaders. Below is a link to the powerpoint presentation.

Heading into youth ministry means so much more than a “new adventure” for these kids. Instead it’s symbolic of change, growing up, and a corner turned. Sure some with older siblings are ready, but most are anxious. To tell a tween definitively, “You are not a kid anymore,” is not a happy moment for all.

We exist to serve the Church in Her mission of making disciples by providing missions experiences that develop the heart of students for serving others and sharing the Gospel.

This is accomplished through specifically focused, meaningful missions experiences in strategic cities of all sizes.Groups are typically housed in local schools, churches, or college facilities. Breakfast and dinner are provided cafeteria-style at the lodging site. Lunch is provided at the work site by local churches. In preparation for the week, youth are required to complete a pre-project study based on the theme for the year, including a local work project.

Hi Parents, I wanted to use this section to update everyone on what has been going on with my own life. I have been told that many people see me just as a worker, babysitter, civil servant, etc. and that people forget that I actually have a life beyond church world. This is very true. Just to catch people up for 2016-2017 this has been extremely busy year for me and my family. Our oldest daughter turned two this year and our youngest turned one. Tina and I celebrated our fourth year of marriage. I finally completed my doctorate degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. And i'm currently finishing up my eighth year of pastoral ministry here at CBC.

Honestly, this has been hands down one of the most difficult years of my life on all fronts. For whatever reason there has been more conflict with students, parents, and leaders than any other previous years. There has been so many times when I thought that this was going to be my last year. But in those moments, I always come back to a few questions - "Is this incompatible for my family's growth?", "Are the youth, leaders, and parents willing to continue to grow and follow?", and "Is there still ministry to be done and can I be an influence?" I believe as youth pastors continue to get older these questions get louder and louder. And there are real tensions in my soul and other youth pastor's souls when it comes to this unique vocation and calling.

I still believe that the Lord has much for me to do here at CBC and with this youth group and if the Lord wills, i'd like to do this for the next 40 years. But I realize there's no way for me to do this alone. This is why I said at senior banquet that if you could do anything for this youth group, please love on and take care of the youth leaders - they are the backbone and glue to this ministry. Appreciate them often, take them out, budget for them, and join them in serving and loving this youth group. Parents, I beg you to continue to be faithful in loving your students towards the Lord. Discipline and disciple them in the ways of the Lord. Balance academics, extracurriculars, and their spiritual growth for they are learning what it means to be a consistent Christian in today's culture. Thank you again parents for your support as always.
