Head Cheetah's Message
Dear Families,
This week at Memorial School our hallways were filled with lots of caring and celebration. The East Hampton Rotary Club donated dictionaries to all third grade students. It was heartwarming to see grade 3 students proudly holding their dictionaries in hand and using them in class to strengthen their knowledge. "Knowledge has a beginning but no end"~ Geeta Lyengar. Our Math and Reading specialist planned a great celebration for all the students that completed their Summer Reading and Math Challenges! Lastly, as principals on Friday we were showered with caring pictures, cards, letters, and thoughtful gifts by students and staff. We feel honored to lead such a CARING Building.
Best,
Joey and Andrea

A Musical Note
Hello Memorial Families! It has been an exciting month of learning in the music room. Read on below to hear about your student’s classroom expectations in music!
Preschool Expectations: Students have practiced saying hello and goodbye using our four voices: talking, whispering, calling, and singing. During class, they enjoyed singing “Engine Engine” and playing sand blocks to make the train sound. They also tried using a hand drum and singing “Frog in the Bucket” while making a frog hop on different spots! Our finger story this month has been “Five Little Ladies”. Check the music room website for song lyrics.
Kindergarten Expectations: Students practiced five voices using the Voices Poem. They also tried singing individually when the singing ball rolls to them. They enjoyed singing songs like “Engine Engine”, “Here We Go Looby Loo”, and “Sally Go ‘Round the Sun”. They also had fun exploring to find new ways to make sounds with their voices.
First Grade Expectations: Students continued to practice making a “perfect match” when using the singing ball. They also focused on keeping a steady beat by playing drums (large and small), bouncing a ball to the beat, and singing songs like “Frog in the Bucket” and “Charlie Over the Ocean”. First graders also worked hard on their new music room jobs, including “Compliment Squad”. The squad picks one student in class that they think did something great in music that day and then gives that student a compliment!
Second Grade Expectations: These students reviewed rhythms and notes from first grade, remembering how to read and sing them. Now, they have noticed a new mystery rhythm, which gets two heartbeats but makes one long stretched out sound! In the coming month, this new rhythm will be revealed and practiced. Favorite songs and games this month included “Bluebird”, the dot game, and “Rico’s Pizza Restaurant” (which involved singing a silly pizza order). Students also practiced describing music they listened to, including the song “In the Hall of the Mountain King”.
Third Grade Expectations: Third graders focused on reviewing previous notes and rhythms from second grade. They also worked on describing what they heard when listening. They have been working on discovering the names of two mystery notes on our staircase, and have found the notes in songs like “Biscuit”, “Alabama Gal”, and “Ghost of Tom”. They have even tried decoding the songs on a virtual piano on their chromebooks! I am so impressed with their work!
Please check out the music room website for more information about the music program. Feel free to reach out at any time by emailing smaldonado@easthamptonct.org.
