Dear Springer Families,

A note a gratitude for all of your warm thoughts and gestures during Staff Appreciation Week. Our staff definitely felt your love and support! Each spring, the staff comes together and chooses both a Teacher of the Year and a Support Person of the Year to represent the exceptional staff at Springer. This year I am happy to announce that Andrea Jones was selected as Teacher of the Year and Raul Aguilar as Support Person of the Year.

Andrea has been part of the LASD district for 21 years, supporting our students both inside and outside the classroom. She believes every child can learn and is dedicated to making sure each student in her classroom feels valued and loved. She contributes to our school through various leadership roles and by participating in many of the school-wide community events. She loves kids and they love her. Thank you Andrea!

Raul Aguilar joined us this year as our day custodian. He takes such great pride in our school, and I think, we will all agree, the campus looks immaculate. Raul has a “can do” approach and goes beyond what is expected to ensure our kids have the very best learning environment. We appreciate you Raul!

Bring your family pets, or your favorite stuffed animals, and join Springer Girl Scouts in marching at the 72nd Annual Los Altos Pet Parade. Everyone is welcome to join in the fun and show off our love for animals while representing Springer School. The parade starts at 10am in downtown Los Altos. The exact meeting location is TBA.

If you don’t have a family pet, no worries! Come along and pet everyone else’s. All kinds of pets are welcome except horses! Feel free to bring smaller pets on a wagon or other transportation method, and remember to bring plenty of snacks and water for them.

We are looking for volunteers for next school year, 2019-20! We have several key roles that if not filled by wonderful parent volunteers we CAN NOT hold our wonderful events. The Springer Community is truly remarkable and one big reason is our parent volunteers. We really couldn’t be Springer without YOU!

If you want to step up for one of these awesome volunteer roles, contact board@springerpta.net OR attend our SPRING VOLUNTEER FAIR on Weds, May 15, 8:45am in front of Mural (or Multi if rain).

Critical open positions include: Walkathon Chair, Springer Auction Co-Chair, Tech Committee Chair, Field Day Coordinator, Junior Olympics Co-Lead and Cross Wall Coordinator. There are a plethora of other volunteer roles available as well. Please let us know if are interested in helping our great school community.

We are seeking a Crosswalk Volunteer Coordinator for the 2019-2020 school year. This role has a very big impact on student safety with very little time commitment. It involves weekly monitoring of signups and emailing requests for volunteers. It can be done entirely remotely.

Please submit any requests for expense reimbursement by Friday May 24th to the PTA Treasurer cubby in the Springer office to ensure that checks are processed by the last day of school. If there are expenses incurred after May 24th, please submit by Monday June 10th or sooner if possible. Reimbursement request forms are available in the PTA Treasurer cubby in the Springer office. Fourth Grade Instrument Quest

June 4th, 2019

In preparation for choosing a musical instrument to play in 5th grade, the LASD Music Department will host an instrument selection event called “Instrument Quest” for all 4th grade students in the district. Your child will be able to try out every instrument we offer in our Band and Orchestra (flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, violin, viola, cello).

This is a great opportunity to see which instrument best suits your child. Parents are welcome to ask questions and to meet the LASD Music teachers.

Students currently in 6th grade must have proof of a Tdap or Dtap (Pertussis or Whooping Cough) booster given after their 7th birthday in order to begin 7th grade in August of 2019. Please provide a copy of your child’s immunization record to your school office as soon as possible!

The MVLA Parent Education Speaker Series is excited to announce our speaker line-up for the 2018-2019 school year. Six nationally and internationally recognized experts will join us to discuss a wide range of topics including – navigating today’s college search process and financial aid options; exploring the crucial impact of sleep on the wellness and success of children and teens; raising resilient kids in a stressful world; fostering increased well-being; engaging the power of self-compassion; and optimizing the college experience to prepare young adults for the jobs of tomorrow.
