Dear Vista Families,

Thank you to our fabulous PFA and parent helpers for making our Spooktacular a fun event. Thank you for all of the donations that came in throughout the week. Your time and generosity supports not only our sixth graders going to science camp, but also allows us to build a happy school community that provides opportunities to enjoy each other's company. Thank you EVERYONE for making the evening a success! I have included a few photos of the event within this newsletter to capture the evening.

We would love for the fun to continue! On Tuesday, October 31st is our costume parade. The gate off of Doane will be opened and families can line up/sit by or on the bleachers to view the parade. The parade will begin at 8:30am and PFA will be selling coffee and danishes between 8:00-8:25am. Please read the costume parade flier beneath my message for further guidelines and details.

Vista has been using Cognitive Thinking Maps for several years. Thinking Maps are ways that students that students use to help correlate specific cognitive processes. They are used across all grades and content areas to build the critical thinking, problem-solving, comprehension, and communication skills necessary for academic success.

Last week students were reintroduced to a Flow Map. A Flow Map is used to sequence events. Below are some ways that you can help reinforce the concept of the Flow Map at home.

Please be sure that your child arrives on time and attends school daily. Research shows that students place importance on education when education is made a priority. Students are more likely to get good grades in school and graduate high school. Be sure to set your child up for success!

Several of our entry/dismissal points are on Vista Drive so plan ahead for early arrival and morning school traffic. The staff parking lot will be closed. There will be no entry/exit to the parking lot. Keep in mind that all white painted curbs are for student drop off and no parking will be allowed in those areas. Please be courteous to our neighbors by not blocking driveways and adhering to the posted speed limits. Claremont Police Department continually monitors the flow of traffic so please adhere to all posted signs.

During the first week of school, teachers will send out an iPad check out form. Please be sure to return this form as soon as possible. iPads will not be sent home until this form is returned to your classroom teacher. Enclosed is the iPad insurance form. For a nominal fee, you can insure your child's iPad for the entire school year.
