Great Things Are Happening at Haw River Elementary!
Week 2: Lion Cub Leaders are Learning and Leading!
Our Lion Cub Leaders put first things first and were right back into the habit of learning and leading at Haw River Elementary! Students were hard at work learning and practicing classroom routines, procedures, and leadership roles. One leadership role we saw students being successful with was leading as a "Classroom Greeter." A classroom greeter welcomes guests and stakeholders as they enter the classroom or campus. Ask your students which leadership roles they have practiced so far this year.
Moving into Week 2, we look forward to seeing our Lion Cub Leaders reflect on their learning and leadership, make connections to previous knowledge, and have a positive effect on their peers and classroom culture. Let's get ready for another phenomenal week of Learning, Leading, and Loving it!
Below, check out some snapshots from our first week of school!

We are always looking for volunteers to support our teachers and students in different ways. If you are interested in volunteering, please reach out to Ms. Mendoza in the front office!
Reminders:
- School begins at 7:50 a.m. for ALL students Pre-K-5. If you arrive after 7:50, you must park in the Pre-K parking lot and walk in with your students to sign them in before they can go to class.
- If you need to change your child's afternoon transportation, please call the front office at (336) 578-0177 before 2:00 p.m. Teachers cannot check and respond to messages and emails throughout the day when they are teaching. Please do not expect an immediate response from your child's teacher during instructional hours. Office hours for teachers begin after 3:00 p.m.
- Families may come to eat lunch with your students. Please reach out to your child's teacher 24 hours in advance to let them know you are coming so they can plan for seating. Remember: NO OUTSIDE FOOD OR DRINK MAY BE BROUGHT IN. Upon arrival, please sign in at the front office and get a visitor's tag.
- Just a quick safety reminder: If you are signing your students out early (before 2:20 p.m.), you must go inside the front office and check them out. If you arrive early, after 2:20 p.m., to sign your child out, you must wait until the dismissal announcements are made at 2:25 p.m. We appreciate your cooperation with this matter!
LEADER IN ME AT HRE
Parents as Partners
We would love to get your insights and feedback on what we can do to nurture this partnership as well as your ideas on what you would like to do as a partner in your student’s education.
Following are a few of our insights on working together to create a partnership:
Partnering is about communication and relationships. We want to honor your family’s culture, beliefs, and circumstances. We want to communicate with you about what is happening in school, but that’s only one part of effective communication. We encourage you to share your opinions, ideas, and background. We believe all of us have unique gifts and talents. If you are doing something at home that works well for your student, that you are proud of, or simply a fun fact about your family, share it with us. Your input and voice is so important!
A partnership is not only about being physically present at the school, volunteering, or being on committees—that is only one aspect of partnership. If you’re working full time, travel for work, or simply cannot be physically present to engage that doesn’t mean you’re not our partner. There are other ways to engage such as:
- Add our school to your social media feed.
- Set up regular times to check in with your student about what they enjoy at school or what is a challenge.
- Regularly check emails or other communications from your student’s teachers and respond. Ask questions when clarification is needed.
- Model a positive attitude about school.
We look forward to our partnership!
HAW RIVER ELEMENTARY HOUSE POINTS UPDATE

Students and staff are encouraged to come to school proudly wearing their House colors!
