Faculty/Staff Book Club Discussed Trust: A Novel by Hernan Diaz
On Thursday, the Faculty/Staff Book Club met to discuss Trust: A Novel by Hernan Diaz. It was one of our biggest groups and one of our liveliest discussions! We started off with the question, "Who can you trust?" Hernan Diaz has crafted a literary puzzle and you will need to read it to answer that question. Reactions ranged from one member wondering, "Why are we doing this?" to "It's brilliant!" In the end, everyone was in agreement that they'd recommend the book and everyone enjoyed the Millionaire's Shortbread during our discussion! Some of Ms. Hagge's students are currently reading it, so we are all anxious to hear what they think.
Faculty/Staff Book Club and Young Adult Diverse Books Book Club Next Read
The next read for both book clubs is the Vermont Reads 2023 book, Last Night at the Telegraph Club by Malinda Lo. We have a lot of copies of this book thanks to a grant from the Vermont Humanities Council. If faculty and staff have already read the book, I've prepared a selection of both fiction and nonfiction titles having to do with the Chinese and Chinese American experience in the United States. Click on the button below the bookcase labeled Faculty/Staff Book Club Bookcase for a hyperlink to my google slide and then click on each cover for a summary on amazon.
Please stop by the library for your copy of Last Night at the Telegraph Club or any of the books on the bookshelves below. And, let me if you are interested in partnering on programming for your classes to go along with the Vermont Reads book. The author, Malinda Lo, will be coming to Vermont in the spring!
