This Week at GLOBE
News & Notes | May 18, 2022
A message from the Executive Director
Dear GLOBE community,
As we complete the final few days of the 2021-22 school year, our students have enjoyed Field Days, spring concerts, and wrapping up our athletics. I hope they've enjoyed these special celebrations of all their hard work this year.
Before officially beginning the summer break, please take a moment to complete our GLOBE Parent Survey. As mentioned in last week’s newsletter, this annual survey is a requirement of our school charter, and it should only take a few minutes of your time.
While you're out this summer, please keep an eye out for periodic GLOBE emails, which provide key information about orientation (Monday, August 8), Board of Directors meetings, campus updates, and other information you'll need as we prepare for the next school year.
I am so heartened by and thankful for our dynamic, engaged community and for all that you do to support GLOBE. I wish you all a happy and safe summer. Whether you are exploring the globe or having fun in your backyard this summer, we want to know about it. Please take some time to send a postcard to us about your adventures this summer. Please send it to the campus that you will be attending next year. I'll look forward to welcoming your students back for the first day of school on Wednesday, August 10.
Sincerely,
Christi Elliott-Earby
Executive Director

A garden at GLOBE
This year we were awarded a $1000 grant from the National Wildlife Federation under the guidance of Mr. Brendon Barclay, to further environmental awareness and more eco friendly activities here at GLOBE. Teachers and students across grades 5–8 joined together to dig, till, mix soil, collect rocks and plant a number of different perennials and pollinators on our Upper Campus. Next time you are in the carpool line, check out the beginning of our garden on your left as you exit campus.
A huge thank you goes out to the administration for making the garden a reality, and a special thank you to our Athletic Director and PE department for the shared space as we start this project. Kyla Sankara of Fernbank Science Center helped by guiding us on the logistics of starting a school garden and donated our first thirty plants!
Thank you to everybody who spared their time to get this garden started, and the many families who offered help and encouragement.
This is only the beginning. Together, we can continue to create opportunities to make our planet, our community, our school, and our students more aware and involved in our environment and the many ways we can contribute to a more eco-friendly world.
Parent Teacher Community Council
Thank You!
A big thanks to all the parents who volunteered for Field Day. You were an amazing group of volunteers! Thank you to all the parents who helped our school this year with various events. We couldn’t do it without you! Pictured below are a few photos taken at the UC Field Day.
Lost and Found
The Lower Campus Lost and Found is overflowing. Please try and visit the school to search for any lost items before the end of the school year. The PTCC will donate all remaining items that are left, as of May 20.

GLOBE Auction
We are excited to announce that the 2022 GLOBE Auction has made $80,028 so far this year, of which $8,725 was raised for the Music Department Fund-a-Project.
The PTCC Auction committee is grateful for those that participated both online and in person, and to the incredible group of volunteers that made it such a wonderful, prosperous 24-hours. The money raised will go to fund school events and teacher grants next year. There are still a few items left in the GLOBE Auction Fire Sale.
Pickup reminder
Send us an email to arrange a pickup time for physical items. Physical items not picked up/paid for by the last day of school will be forfeited.
GLOBE Athletics
Flag Football
We would like to offer a special thank you to Zakia Funchess for stepping in to help coach the 8th grade Flag Football team this season.
Boys Volleyball is a go for next year!
It has been confirmed that the MAAC Conference will support boy’s volleyball beginning in the spring of 2023. More detailed information will be provided at the beginning of the 2022-23 school year.
Tennis
The GLOBE tennis team enjoyed their end of season celebration on May 3 and we would like to express our thanks and appreciation to all of the parents for providing snacks and your continued support this season. It was a great first year and we look forward to what the future holds for GLOBE Tennis.
Soccer
The Girls B Team won their quarter final game, 6-0, against Caliph Mohammed School on Friday, May 13, with goals from Maddie, Niyah, Gabby, Sophia F and two goals from Ky Mani. The team then went on to play an extraordinary match against Buckhead YMCA. In this tightly fought semi-final, GLOBE bombarded Buckhead’s goal in the second half, but could not quite get a breakthrough, with the final score being 1-0 to Buckhead YMCA. The progress of our girls soccer B team has been nothing short of phenomenal. We are so proud of the players and coaches. The passion for the game is evident and hopefully the players will carry this forward in the coming years.
A 'BIG SHOUT OUT' to the 8th graders for an AMAZING year
Thank you and best of luck in high school, from your coaches!
Atlanta Track "All-Comers Meets'
A small but enthusiastic contingent from GLOBE attended their first track meet last night at the Atlanta Track ‘All-Comers Meet’ and tried out a few events. It was a lovely atmosphere. Sanai ran a respectable 15.13 in the 100m, while Rielle and Narayah ran 16.48 and 16.52 respectively. Respectable times for their debuts! If you would like to test your skills as a track and field athlete, send an email to request further details, or click here to view their upcoming schedule.

The latest COVID Communiqué, volume 12, can be viewed here.
Weekly COVID-19 testing
Viral Solutions will be back on campus again on Thursday, May 19, to provide all GLOBE students and staff with access to free rapid antigen testing. The positivity rates of each testing clinic can be found on tab 2 of the Data Dashboard. Results will be updated the day after each testing clinic occurs. If you would like to enroll your student in testing for the semester, you can fill out the consent form here. If you have questions about the testing process or how to receive your student's results, please read the FAQ flyer.
Admissions
We understand that plans can change. If your student’s plans to return to GLOBE have changed from “yes” to “no” between now and the start of the 2022 school year, please complete this form. Having an accurate count for the school year allows us to plan and budget appropriately or allows a student from our waiting list to fill the open spot.
