Points of Emphasis: Inquiry
Inquiry is one of the three Points of Emphasis for CCS Social Studies in 2022-2023. Inquiry learning is inextricably tied to the disciplines of history and social sciences. In inquiry learning, students solve open-ended questions and problems through high-level questions, research, and investigation.
At the January 17 PD Day, our opening general session took a deep dive (or was it a broad swim?) into inquiry. The session unpacked the philosophical and pedagogical implications of inquiry learning in social studies, and examined practical strategies for classroom implementation.

Updated Interactive TCI Methods Guidebook

March 8 Professional Development Day
Social Studies sessions for this PD Day will focus on engagement (our third point of emphasis) for this year. Engagement is evident when students exhibit curiosity, interest, motivation, and critical thinking. Engagement sessions will include both digital and hands-on engagement strategies.
If you have ideas or thoughts to share on the topic of engagement for this PD, please contact Matt Doran via CCS email.
