Message from the Principal
As always, there are many things happening in the Middle School. We are starting to prepare for State Testing, two of our students competed in the Belmont County Spelling Bee and The Winter Sports season is coming to a close. Believe it or not, Jr. High Track practices for the Spring season start on February 21st!
Currently this year, we have used four Snow Days. If we would get to a sixth Snow Day that would be the beginning of our required Blizzard Bag days. Students would have two weeks from the date of the snow day to make up each Blizzard Bag.
Work hard, stay warm and remember that Spring is right around the corner!
~Mr. McKeever

5th Grade STEM Groundhog Day Activity
5th Grade STEM students celebrated Groundhog Day by discussing hibernation and the structure of a typical groundhog burrow. Then, they worked as engineers to construct prototypes for a new groundhog burrow after a construction company accidentally destroyed one. They were given a budget and a list of materials they could "purchase" for the construction of a new burrow. The burrow had to have an entrance, a sleeping chamber, and an additional escape route.
7th Grade Girls Basketball
3D Figures
Mrs. Bigelow's math class used Play-Doh to explore cross-sectional cuts made to 3D figures. The students made parallel, perpendicular, and diagonal cuts to explore the 2D shapes that are created by each cut. Prior to the cuts, the students made predictions about what shape they thought each cut would make. They used this hands-on activity to determine if their predictions were correct and to visualize the alteration of the geometrical shapes.
