Mission: The mission of the Rio Hondo Independent School District is to educate every student by creating an environment of high expectations, innovation, and strong partnerships.
From Mr. R's Desk
BOBCAT NATION,
This week was another reminder of all the great things that are happening at Rio Hondo High School PTECH, especially in our classrooms. Not that I needed the reminder but one of my favorite things about my job is going into classrooms. I really enjoy seeing teachers in their environment and capturing those special moments. Teaching is no easy task and that is why I appreciate every effort being put forth by our staff.
We have been placing an emphasis on the first five minutes and last ten minutes of instruction and we can see the efforts. One of the best quotes that I heard this week was shared by Ms. Hervey from one of her students... ma'am what's up with these Exit Tickets... all my teachers are doing them. That right there was music to my ears and on that note... THANK YOU teachers for your bell ringers and your exit tickets.
Please keep in mind that we have to be intentional in everything that we do. Every minute counts, every second counts, every student counts and yes, every teacher counts. We all have to be on the same page to succeed. Let's help each other, let's support each other, and let's keep each other accountable. I know it's easier said than done but holding each other accountable is what's going to take us from great to excellence.
Accountability is one of The Five Dysfunctions of a Team by Patrick Lencioni.
- Absence of Trust: When team members are unable to show their weakness, resulting in being reluctant to be vulnerable and being open with one another. Team members will be afraid of admitting their mistakes and will be unwilling to ask for help.
- Fear of Conflict: Lack of trust results in fear of conflict which in turn results in team members incapable of engaging in debates or openly voicing their opinions. The team completely avoids conflicts which results in inferior results.
- Lack of Commitment: Fear of conflict results in lack of commitment. As team members have not bought into the decisions, they don’t feel committed to the same which resulting in an environment where ambiguity prevails.
- Avoidance of Accountability: Lack of commitment results in team members not making each other accountable. If one has not bought into the decision, they won’t make their peers too accountable.
- Inattention to Results: If the team members don’t feel accountable, they put their own needs [ego, recognition, career development etc.] ahead of the team goals. This results in team losing sight and the company suffers.
