News and Notes
Walk to School Day
Since 1997, communities have been coming together for Walk to School Day, and Brockport Central School District has been participating since 2006. Families are invited to walk, bike or scooter to school on Wednesday, October 6, 2021, to celebrate the benefits of a healthy lifestyle. The elementary school and middle school class with the highest percentage of walkers will be presented with the Walk to School Trophy (elementary) or plaque (OMS).
- Students should enter through their school’s main door at their normal start time to ensure they are counted.
- All schools will begin on time, and students should not be dropped off early. Buses will run as scheduled.
- Younger children must walk with an adult.
- Community volunteers will be stationed at intersections and at schools to greet and encourage the students.
- Families wishing to participate, but live too far away, may park and walk from Bill Gray’s or Our Village Optician (please park in the lot across from Brockport Diner).
- The event will occur rain or shine. Families should use their judgement in the event of inclement weather.
- Please share your pictures and tag them #Walk2BCSD2021.
The event is organized by Brockport’s Walk to School Committee.
Notification Regarding Social Media
Brockport families,
As you may know, a challenge for students to vandalize their school’s bathrooms in the month of September was circulated on the social media site TikTok. While our students have a great deal of pride and respect for our school, we did have a few students engage in some damaging behaviors.
We have been informed that additional challenges for the upcoming months have been circulated on TikTok. The challenge for the month of October is for a student to “smack a staff member.” While I truly believe that our students have too much respect for themselves and for our school district staff to engage in such activity, this is a good time to have a conversation with your child(ren) regarding social media and acceptable behaviors.
We respectfully request your continued partnership and support in maintaining a safe and comfortable learning environment for our students and staff. Please address this concerning trend, as well as all inappropriate or unsafe social media activities and interactions with your child(ren).
By working together, we can ensure our campus and events are safe, family-friendly and enjoyable.
Thank you,
Superintendent Sean Bruno
