November Volunteer Training
Tuesday, October 12th, 11am-1pm
Want to become a Stonewall Volunteer?
Our center and our services absolutely rely on the contributions of people like you- thank you for your interest in volunteering!
We ask all of our volunteers, interns and other associates to attend our orientation training. Once you've gone through this training, you will be able to participate in the following ways:
- Receive emails every time there is a standard volunteer opportunity (i.e. helping with an event, tabling at an outreach fair, etc.)
- Apply to be an intern
- Apply to be on the board of directors
-Start your own group or become a group facilitator
- Notify us if you would like to become an event planning committee member, a grant writer, or work on another special project.
What to expect from this training
Each training is approximately 2 hours long. Over the course of this time, we cover general LGBTQ+ concepts and vocabulary, information on being an effective ally, what services Stonewall offers and how our community can access them, the types of events and gatherings Stonewall provides, what rules and agreements we have for our volunteers, and how to sign up for each type of volunteer work.
We understand that some of our community members have been knowledgable about some of these topics- often through lived experience- for a long time, and elements of the training may feel like 'review'. We still ask everyone to attend a training before becoming a volunteer of any kind because phrasing, experience and understanding can vary widely. We need our whole team to be on the same page.
Our trainings are always held in our office which is fully wheelchair accessible, including ADA compliant all-gender restrooms. We have water available, and the training generally takes place in our back conference room. We take a 5-10 minute break in the middle of the training to allow folks time to get water, stretch their legs, and use the restroom.
We need an RSVP count from anyone planning to attend so that we can have paper materials printed for you. If you have RSVP'd, you do not need to bring any materials with you- though we do suggest a refillable water bottle if you'd like to use our filtered water system.
