PRINCIPAL'S NOTE
A sure sign of spring is the return of our practice fire drills! This week we had our first drill since November. Students did a great job and needed only a few reminders. We have a few more left to do before we meet our mandate of ten fire drills. In April, we will practice our lockdown drill as well.
I hope that many families will be able to attend the STEM City event next Thursday, April 6th from 5 to 7PM. There will be many exciting activities to see and try out.
Phippsburg will be represented at every grade level. Our theme is Trees. Each grade level has worked on special activities and projects designed around a variety of lessons. We encourage you and your family to come and see samples of their work.
In addition to the door prize opportunities from STEM City, students who attend PES will have an additional chance to win one of three prizes: $25 Smitty's GameLAB gift card, $15 Island Treasure Toys gift card, or $10 gift card to Fielder's Choice. All you need to do is see Ms. McCauley when you are at the event, and she will record your name and enter you into the drawing. Names will be selected on Friday, April 7th. DON'T MISS THIS EXCITING EVENT!!
BATTLE OF THE BOOKS TONIGHT!
Best of Luck to tonight's Battle of the Books participants from 4th and 5th grade! In addition to reading at least five Maine Student Book Award nominated books, they gave up their recess on Wednesdays over the past several weeks to go over practice questions with Ms. Phippen and Mrs. Snell. Thanks to our excellent coaches, PES always has a very good showing at the Battle of the Books. The "battle" takes place at 6PM tonight at Woolwich Central School. It is one of my favorite RSU1 events; I highly recommend you check it out.
OUR CHICKADEE AWARD WINNER
PES students voted on 10 Chickadee Award Nominee books this month. The winner was Chez Bob, by Bob Shea, and the second favorite was Negative Cat, by Sophie Blackall. You can listen to all ten of these books recorded on the PES Library web page.
