Dear West Shore Families,

Below are a few brief updates shared earlier regarding the start to our school year related to safety:

Morning and afternoon drop off and pick up procedures are starting to smooth out thanks to your patience and diligence. Remember for safety reasons, there is NO lobby pick up at the end of the day.

Thank you for supporting our new a.m. drop off safety procedures. By allowing your child to independently walk to class, we can safely monitor adult visitors in the mornings and alleviate congested hallways. These new procedures will help tremendously in case of an emergency.

Our younger students are doing a fantastic job getting to class. You should be so proud!

All Lake Fenton staff are trained in A.L.I.C.E. (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate). This is a type of training for situational awareness in the case of an intruder in our buildings.

Our first lock down drill took place on 9/25. Officer Thomas (our School Resource Officer) was present and expressed how impressed he was with how serious the students and staff responded during the drill. Soon we will have a Parent Information Night to share more details on our A.L.I.C.E. training effort.

Many of you (75%) have already logged into Synergy to set up your parent account (ParentVue). Thank you! About 25% of our parents/guardians have not yet logged in. This message is intended for the 25% of parents/guardians who have not logged in this year to ParentVue. We want to help you.

Please contact our office (810-591-6542) to obtain information on the login process/code. Once logged in, you will see your student’s attendance, grade information and much more. We hope you will find this information useful throughout the year. You will also have the opportunity to approve the technology AUP and other important and required forms. If approvals are not given, student access to technology will be disabled.

This process only takes about 5 minutes. If you do not have access to a computer or the internet, please contact our school and we will provide paper copies of the AUP and other required forms found in ParentVue.

Lake Fenton Community Schools Charging Policy for West Shore Elementary and Torrey Hill Intermediate School Students

(A Note from Karen Morris, F.S. Director)

· The student may charge up to five meals at the district’s published standard rate (equivalent to 5 reimbursable meals). They may never charge ala carte snack items. Ala carte purchases may not be made with cash until the negative balance is paid.

· Notes will be sent home daily with students who have negative balances.

· Low balance emails are sent out every Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday if a student has a negative balance of $2.00 or more.

· Parents can check online at www.sendmoneytoschool.com for their child’s balance and purchase history.

· Once a student owes $15.00 or more, a supplemental meal will be provided. The protein and grain portion of this meal may vary by building (cheese sandwich or soy butter sandwich) a piece of fruit and a milk. The account will be charged $1.00 for this meal.

· Weekly, the food service director reviews the negative balance list and calls/emails home to the families with a negative balance over $5.00.

· The director may notify the school principal of any balance that is over negative $15.00.

· No charging the last 2 weeks of school.

· All negative balances should be paid in full by the last day of school. Negative balances will carry over to the next school year.

With the change in temperature, please make sure your child comes to school prepared for the cold weather (Coat, snow pants, boots, hat, and gloves). Students will be going out for recess unless the temperature is under 9 degrees or it is raining.

Are you interested in part-time employment? Substitutes teachers and aides are needed at all buildings. To be a substitute aide, please contact Lynne Watters at 591-2534. Please check our lost and found for any missing items. Lost & Found is donated at the end of the month.

Just a reminder, due to safety concerns during after school pick up times, West Shore has a "NO LOBBY" pick -up policy.

In the past, when lobby pick-up was an option, it became very difficult to keep track of and monitor students and the adults picking up the students. We have several safety factors to consider including custody issues and "safe adults" who are on emergency contact lists.

From time to time there are extenuating circumstances. In those instances, Mrs. Shaughnessy will consider and/or approve alternate end of the day options.

During pick up lane, please make sure that your pick up sign is visibly hanging from your visor in the passenger side window. Thanks again for your patience and support! It’s been a great team effort to make this work for our student’s safety.
