Safety Update from Allen ISD
Dear Allen ISD Parents and Staff,
The Allen ISD community continues to grieve following the senseless tragedy at the Allen Premium Outlets. School district officials remain in close contact with the Allen Police Department to determine if any of the victims or affected employees are connected to the Allen ISD family. The District also anticipates that our students, families, and staff may have been shopping at the Outlets during this traumatic incident and could also be impacted.
Even if you or your child were not at the Outlets, acts of violence can confuse and frighten and may prompt a heightened sense of worry about personal safety. The Counseling Department is prepared to meet with any student or staff member who is struggling or feels overwhelmed on Monday, May 8, and will continue to be available through the end of the school year. Counselors will be accessible at each school, and additional counseling support services will be dispatched to a specific campus if the need arises.
Our children look to us for information and guidance on how to react. Regardless of age, you can help your children feel safe by establishing a sense of normalcy and security and talking with them about their worries. The Allen ISD Counseling Website has a list of resources you may find helpful as you hold conversations with your children over the next several days.
Regarding the situation from Lowery Freshman Center referenced in Saturday’s message, Allen ISD has been in close contact with the Allen Police Department (APD) to conduct a thorough investigation. Based on the evidence, law enforcement has determined there is no credible threat to the school. Regardless, Allen ISD is working in close partnership with APD School Resource Officers (SROs) to provide an enhanced police and security presence at the Lowery campus on Monday, May 8, while still providing substantial SRO coverage at other Allen ISD campuses. We appreciate the support of the APD as we return to our regular school schedule tomorrow. Parents may begin to receive additional communication from their campus as we prepare for Monday, including information on AP examinations at Allen High School.
A school building is where a student should feel safest, and Allen ISD takes that responsibility seriously. If you or your child have any additional information that you feel is important to share, you may submit an anonymous tip via text message to Allen ISD by texting AISD and your tip to 847411 (TIP411). Students may also speak directly with a teacher or campus administrator. In the event of an immediate emergency, call 9-1-1 first.
Thank you for your understanding as we work to provide safe learning environments for all students and staff in Allen ISD. We also want to thank our brave City of Allen first responders for the heroic actions they take every single day.
