News and Notes from the Principal
The first 4 days of school both virtually and in-person were nothing short of amazing, exciting and reuniting on many fronts! While we all get accustomed to wearing face coverings and maintaining stricter protocols with regards to social distancing, disinfecting, etc - the students and staff are doing a great job of working towards this solution together. As we enter the first full week of the 20-21 school year together, there are just a few reminders that will help to make this a successful school year:
- If your student is not feeling well, please do NOT send them to school. With concurrent learning they have the opportunity to take advantage of the curriculum even when not present - they can log into their google meets.
- Face Coverings are to be worn at ALL times while on campus, when lunch is not being consumed.
- Congregation before/after school is strongly discouraged. If we want to maintain in-person schooling it is important that we ALL work together to make this happen.
- If your child is unable to attend school due to COVID-related symptoms please be sure to contact the school to speak with the nurse: (tparker@bryan.k12.ga.us or dfoster@bryan.k12.ga.us) - All attendance related notes should be submitted to Ms. Carolyn Oetjen via email at (coetjen@bryan.k12.ga.us)
- eLearners are expected to follow the same schedule and meet the same expectations regarding timely arrival, interactions, assignment completion, etc. as their in-person counterparts.
If you have not had a chance to speak with your child about their learning opportunities this year, I would strongly encourage you to do just that. Our teachers have done an amazing job taking on concurrent learning and pressing on to make it work for all learners. While this new method of instruction is new for all, we ask for patience and grace as we work through these first few weeks together and over the technological details, etc. If you have specific class questions it is always advised to first contact the classroom teacher so that they may answer/address your questions.
Educators continue to show that they truly are the building blocks of our society and have the most creative solutions to turn a challenge into an opportunity! Thank you for your attitude of gratitude & support of the process that has been taken to ensure that RHHS continues to shine! Take a minute, thank an educator!

Advanced Placement Exams
Taking Advanced Placement exams is an important part of all AP courses. Richmond Hill High School expects that all students take AP exams for the AP classes in which they are enrolled. Scoring well on an AP exam can often earn students college credit for their high school class, saving a significant amount of money on tuition. For the 2021 AP exams, students at Richmond Hill High School will be registering online. Online Exam registration is open now and will end for the year on Mon, Mar 1, 2021 at 11:59 PM. Register and pay for exams at www.TotalRegistration.net/AP/112525. This year each AP exam costs $100.00, with the exception of AP Seminar and AP Research ($145). The state of Georgia pays for ONE exam for each student who is taking a STEM exam (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math). Also, students who qualify for Free or Reduced Lunch are eligible for their first exam free and receive a fee reduction on any other exams. If you fall into either of these categories (STEM or Free/Reduced lunch), be sure to answer appropriately during the registration process. Registration ends and payment is due for courses beginning in Semester 1 by Friday, October 30. Registrations and payments after this date will incur a $40 late fee per exam. There will be another registration and payment window for courses beginning in second semester. Please contact Mrs. Merry Tanner, mtanner@bryan.k12.ga.us if you have any questions.
eLearner Parent/Student Information & Expectations
Richmond Hill High School eLearning Students & Families,
It has been an exciting week at Richmond Hill High School as we welcomed students back both virtually and in person. This week has been anything but ordinary and we are appreciative of the grace and patience you have shown our staff in working through this opportunity to provide virtual instruction for your child. Our teachers have remained very organized, insightful and reflective in delivering this form of online instruction while always focused on improving the experience for the better.
With the first week coming to an end, my hope is that this communication will clear up any questions or concerns you may have as we progress through this virtual semester together. As you and your child have likely noted, this eLearning experience is far different than the model experienced in the Spring. Our teachers are working concurrently with both face:face and eLearners to provide a real time experience with the high expectations you have come to expect from RHHS.
In order to be successful as an eLearner it is essential that ALL RHHS eLearners are:
- Engaged and Responsive - Students should be active participants in class discussions (visually & verbally) and available for the duration of class.
- Arriving at Google Meets on time: Just like our face: face students the attendance of our eLearners is expected to be punctual and for the duration of the scheduled block. Students not in attendance or those that arrive late will be marked accordingly.
- See 2020-2021 Schedule (Thursday’s follow advisement schedule, pg. 2)
- In the event of an absence, all attendance letters should be shared with our Attendance Clerk Carolyn Oetjen (coetjen@bryan.k12.ga.us) as well as their classroom teachers via email.
- Dressed appropriately, out of bed and engaged with the content at hand. The expectation of dressing for success includes those eLearners as well.
- Positive digital citizens while being responsible for their use of technology and their internet presence.
- Advocates for themselves and ask questions just as the face: face students. If questions arise they should reach out to the teacher and/or a classmate for clarification. Our teachers have set up opportunities for communication through verbal interaction, Remind, Email, the Google Meets Chat, etc.
- Responsible for the content delivered. If a class is missed, students are responsible for scheduling a time for virtual tutorial and/or reviewing the content within the GoogleClassroom to ensure all expectations are met.
We look forward to the week ahead and the opportunity to continue to work together. Should you ever have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to reach out to us here at Richmond Hill High School. Have a wonderful and restful weekend! See you on Monday, virtually!
Google Classroom for Parents
Think of Google Classroom (GC)as your child’s digital link to learning. One of the most beneficial features of Google Classroom for our E-Learners will be able to remote into the classroom for real-time instruction with peers. In addition, teachers use GC to share assignments, homework, newsletters, and much more with students AND parents!
